What did you do this week (and weekend)?
As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!
As a side note, why does this topic get posted on Friday mornings? The things that people will want to talk about usually happen on weekends, days after this topic shows up.
I have wondered the same. It also kind of causes a bit of hesitation for me because in my mind the weekend of a week comes at the end, so I don’t really know which weekend the thread is for.
Though writing this out I can see that realistically there is no authority that is going to chide me on reporting the wrong weekend activities if I happen to talk about last weekend on a Friday vs the current weekend on a Sunday.
I began a journey toward quitting vaping and drinking last week. The drinking part isn't too bad so far. It was less an addiction and more just something I consumed too much a little too frequently. I didn't use to drink at home at all, but I'd go hard at get togethers with friends. Then I started grabbing beers on the weekends at home to liven up my evenings once the kids were in bed. And then it just kept happening more and more frequently and then started leaking into weeknights. So it was just time to take a break and reset a bit. Arguably that was a problem, but I wanted to stop before it became a big problem.
Vaping on the other hand..holy shit. Quitting sucks so bad. I decided to replace the vape with Zyn, a nicotine pouch. That's helping immensely with the nicotine withdrawals, but the compulsion to hit a vape is constant. I'm coming up on a week without regular vape usage, so hopefully another week will kick the compulsion and then I can work on stepping down the pouches and switch to patches or gum or something.
Congrats on making the effort! I know you have a better handle on the drinking, but I would non-alcoholic beer really helped me end up drinking much less. There are a ton of delicious and healthier options.
I did so much this week! I've been having a blast.
Last weekend went to Universal Studios Hollywood Hollywood Horror Night for the first time. It was a blast! The haunted mazes were crazy fun to go through and they had so much effort put into them. The Five Nights at Freddy's seemed to have an actual animatronic Freddy Fazbear at the opening; the other characters further in were puppets but it was really, really hard to tell they were. The Poltregeist one had a giant terrifying floating skull that comes out of nowhere. And several of them use water effects to simulate blood spatter and have threads coming out of the ceiling that feel absolutely terrifying. Best of all, I went in a group with disabled people so I got to skip most of the lines. I actually found out that we managed to get in for the opening weekend somehow. The only downer was the weather; it wasn't hot but the humidity was crazy so I was covered with sweat the whole time.
Not too long ago we got free tickets to go to Pride Night at Disneyland. It's the same kind of concept; the park closes somewhat early and there are events and food and decorations put up, and it going to Haloween Horror Nights honestly pissed me off about what Disney is doing. Disney's late night events are twice as expensive while offering probably half of the effort and expenditure of Universal's offerings.
Anyways, yesterday I took some time off of work because I had the opportunity to do a playtest for a major game publisher which was paying more than the classes I would have been teaching. That was fun in and of itself, but I spent the rest of the day on the town with my husband. We went to the Lucky Tiki bar in West Hollywood and then went to the nearby Improv to see Nicole Byer perform her comedy. She was fantastic!
