What did you do this week (and weekend)?
As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!
More like the last couple weeks, but I've learned a little bit about mortise locks. Our new house is from 1920 and there are a few doors with that old hardware. One of them had a somewhat jiggly knob, and one had a wildly jiggly knob and the latch wasn't springing back as it should. I was donating some stuff to a Habitat ReStore and happened to notice several bins of mortise locks. Found one of the right size that wasn't too rusty, paid a whole $10 bucks, took it home. Took it apart, cleaned it, put it back together with an understanding of how they work (not complicated at all), and replaced the one with the non springy latch. Found a spring and replaced it so now I have a spare. Designed and 3D printed a little gasket to fix the jiggly knobs. Twas fun!
I participated in (and completed!) a game jam. It was my first one ever. The theme was SCALE.
I made a sort of... platforming? thing? where as you explore the map, the viewport expands so that the camera "ratchets" to include all the tiles you've seen so far. Your jump distance is relative to the screen size, not the world size. So as you explore more of the world and each tile becomes individually smaller, you're able to cross larger gaps.
We just returned from a holiday in England. We first spent 5 days in London seeing all of the typical tourist sites. Then we spent a few days in the Cotswolds, in Moreton-in-Marsh. We wandered the sheep pastures on our way to visiting am arboretum and a falconry centre. The town is supposedly the inspiration for Bree in LOTR, and we drank at the pub that claims to be the inspiration for The Prancing Pony.
Hung out with friends and my partner and had a great time overall. I'm really enjoying my summer outside of the catastrophes, and I'm trying to ignore my dreams of returning to work in the fall.
I accidentally slept through a whole day yesterday. I didnt have anything going on so it wasnt a big deal.
I mastered the audio for a stand up comedy special that has a really tight turnaround. I was able to get a render of the show over to the talent and he had some awesome feedback for me to action on this week. This is not the first time I'd one stand up audio work, but it is for the express use in video content. Its a lot of fun getting outside of my comfort zone a bit (I can't edit the timeline at all, just mix and automate).
Spent time with the family as well, visiting the inlaws and going to backyard parties. A very busy, tiring weekend.
Originally planned to just add a simple mod log to my forum app for mod accountability but instead I got effects and statuses on profile cards.
