Looking at my desktop... 2018-07-31 09:31
I hadn't even realised I was using it in ISO, because anything else makes my day-to-day life in programming difficult.
I once had to parse user dates... I decided it was (unsurprisingly) an unsolveable problem most of the time, and that Unix epoch time is the only answer. Show users ISO, track with epoch, or whatever the next replacement for that is, considering the upcoming Y2038 problem.
It's pointless to do it yourself. I just use libraries.
I'm afraid
library == bloat
for those small systems where I actually have to parse input from a user in that fashion.Usually, yes. I can just pull in libc's tools and then everything is nice and dandy, most of the time.
However, when you don't even get a libc... Things become... Interesting.
Like datestamping correctly on a conveyor belt, using a 8bit microcontroller with less than 512kb of memory in it, most of which is devoted to moving boxes to the right locations... It was only at this point that I realised that I despise time, and time and computers don't really belong in the same realm of reasoning. (Nowadays, if I can get away with it, I request a WiFi controller, and patch in ntp.)
In the military, we would use 30 JUL 18. Now I write all my dates like that out of habit.
I get irrationally annoyed at people who visit websites/forums dedicated to a movie, TV show or a band just to talk about how much they "hate" said movie, TV show or band.
I mod a sub on Reddit dedicated to RuPaul’s Drag Race. The number of assholes who feel it’s imperitive to drop in and call us faggots never ceases to amaze me.
No, they come into threads regardless of whether or not it hits /r/all.
You'd hate to be a Star Wars fan right now. Even on Tildes, the top comment on the article about IX's casting is about how the previous movie was "beyond shit".
Ha, I am a fan, but I make a point to avoid the comments section on anything Star Wars related for precisely this reason. I've thoroughly enjoyed all the new films, and it sorta feels like there's no place anymore (online) to just... be happy/excited about new Star Wars stuff without people telling you how "shit" it is. It's sad.
Yep, I'm in the same boat. Obviously they aren't flawless but I actually like the new movies and I don't know why (some of) those who don't feel the need to try and ruin it for everyone else. I was considering making an r/starwarsfanswhoactuallylikestarwars but couldn't think of a snappier title.
I would not consider that irrational. Those people have no reason to be doing that.
If you're so bored that you're going to go out of your way to enter a discussion and start posting opinions just to piss people off then you need to find something else to do.
I'd say there's a time and place for that, especially if it's something people are passionate about. I mean, I've shared my negative opinions on recent Star Wars movies, but only because I wanted to lessen the sting of my disappointment. I really wanted the new episodes to hit me like the old flicks, and wanted to commiserate when they didn't.
Less helpful is dropping low effort troll posts in a fan sub/thread, badmouthing for no reason.
Of course, calling a user on a rupaul thread/sub a faggot is way beyond trolling. People who do that need spiritual and other help.
My experience trying to register my leased vehicle (MA plates, lost registration) at the VA DMV has given me insight into the minds of the kinds of Anarchists who want to literally burn down the entire bureaucratic system.
On a related note, tow companies are incredibly predatory. Holy shit.
Never lose your registration y'all. Make copies.
I had a TN visa for years for working in the US. I’d guess the climate has changed since I last did it though, and I have no interest in ever working there again.
So my dad died a couple of years ago, I am still dealing with the "estate" and one of the old cars got stolen while I was out of the country. The estate issues are still not settled, I have to pay all the bills, and everything is still in his name. It turns out that I am legally required to have to insurance on the stolen car until it is unregesitered. I cannot unregister it because it is still in his name. BTW, this is not in the in the USA, bureaucracies suck everywhere it seems.
I just had to replace my licence and it only took like 20 minutes. Not all bureaucrats are shitty.
Make your backup. Right NOW!
I study high school and to finish it, I have to (apart from things like math, english, etc) read 20 books from a list (that has ~80 books), create short 1-2 page essay and then, when I finish the highschool, complete exam, where I have to talk 15 minutes about one of the 20 chosen books - basically remember the essay.
I had 3 copies of each essays - one printed, one in cloud and one on hdd. Well, hdd failed, but I had cloud backup, so I didn't download these essays back. Few months afterwards, I switched from OneDrive to Google Drive and though I had all my data backed up there.
Well, I checked it two days ago and on cloud was completely empty folder. Great. Eventualy, I was able to get 4 essays from OneDrive and downloaded them to computer and uploaded on Google Drive. Now I just hope I'll find those printed versions of the rest.
Make your backup, guys. Now. I mean, right now. In at least 4 copies. Trust me, it'll be worth it.
I think there are some cheap window sensor alarms you can buy that will scare most intruders off.
I just made a custom
bmp
parser in javascript https://github.com/nektro/basalt/blob/master/src/file/image/bmp.jsI started playing Night in the Woods, I've never felt that any work in any medium has understood me like this game does. Not having a good time at college, the melancholy of coming back to your hometown and seeing how things have changed, your friends being gone or being different than when you left them, wandering around the places you used to hang out to see them in ruin or disrepair, the autumnal aesthetic, the feelings of failure and inadequacy, feeling distant from your family, and just the general feeling that life has left you outside. It really captures it perfectly.
I really wish people would check their mail more often... Like I KNOW your ass hasn't been there in two or more weeks. There's a stratigraphy of mail pal.
Hello
Is there anything interesting going on in your life?
