Holy crap traight A+? top marks! Thats amazing!
My 2 cents for the whole ordeal..... get some rest over the weekend and think about a hobby you like.... consider joining a club about that hobby! It's a great way to meet new people and do what you like!
Amazing my dude! keep at it! the final strech for the degree was when I had the most fun, so keep at it! Best of luck!
Amazing! Congratulations on a job well done!
Also, computer vision? not bad! What languages/ libraries are you using?
Well python is what's being used in the industry, so good choice!
Congratulations on the research internship! Im sure you'll do great!
Didn't want to reply due to not knowing you and your situation well but I'll share the advice I give to a friend who seems to be in a similar place as you.
It's important to figure out for yourself what is important and what you value and what makes you happy. I know this is something that is difficult to do mostly because we don't know what those things are but luckily if you've got some memory of past events :P then this excercise is fortunately doable. Reflect on the things that give you satisfaction or pleasure but at the same time are dependent on you. What things were you able to do that after they were done you felt satisfied or happy about them. It might be that getting good grades or finishing a project brought you that happiness. It might have been chatting with someone else over coffee or going for a walk with a friend talking about what you're currently going through. The important thing is to put effort into actually recollecting what those events were and how they affected you.
With this friend we will meet up once a week or so and just talk, sometimes these are deep discussions about fundamental problems and sometimes they are just lighthearted chats about what shows or movies we saw. He was usually the one that initiated these talks but I was always willing to spend that time with him to help him through whatever he was going through at that moment. The point is that he was able to find someone (me) who had the time and willingness to meet up with him. He tried that with a bunch of different people and at the time when we started we were aquantainces but not really friends. It wasn't something that I did for him but that he did for himself to help himself.
He is also a person who feels that since he isn't living the typical narrative of what he's supposed to do school->job->marriage->kids then he isn't complete in some way. The thing that I try to get him through to him is that each person's journey is unique to them and the things that bring them satisfaction and joy. For me early on I knew I wanted a family and kids and everything was directed at that goal. For him, he wanted a doctorate level degree and directed everything towards that goal. Now he feels he needs to change direction and that is fine because his goals and priorities have changed, yours can change as well but it's important to know how those desires are changing now. Now that you're closer to reaching your education goals you notice something is lacking so you're reevaluating your goals and there is nothing wrong with shifting them to align with what you're pursuing now. The important thing is to not feel like you've wasted time or effort in pursuing something that no longer brings you satisfaction, since it did do it in a different season of life.
Everyone is "abnormal" in their own way and people are more like you than they are different from you. You'll overlap with most people on 80% of things, the 20 or so percent that you don't align with someone will also be different with different people and that's ok. Find the groups that are closest to your values and in that group just talk with people, I think you'll find you're pretty normal despite what you think about yourself.
Hopefully this completely unsolicited commentary helps you in some way.
The background with this friend is that he comes from a socially, religiously, and ethnically conservative background and he is so different from how others around him appear. The on thing that always stands out to me is the fact that he is really into metal music, DnD, and making really inappropriate jokes which coincidentally don't match up with the culture around him. Over the course of about 3 years that we've been talking I've been able to find a lot of common ground with him, ironically the metal music was one of them despite having the same background haha. But we are very close in terms of perspective on lots of things (that's where that 80% value comes from) the only thing we differ on essentially is what each of us pursued family life vs. fulfilling career. He sees himself as not normal while viewing me as completely normal even though we are very close in how we see and respond to the world.
Again it's advice that is super specific to one person but the more I talk with others as well the more I see similar in people than different, even if in their head they feel like outcasts.
Good luck in finding your footing with the therapist, hopefully you'll see yourself as just another "normal" person that still has some things to work out just like lots of other "normal" people. You'll be alright, sometimes these things just take more time than we hope to figure out.
I'll start!
This week was very diferent.... my wife and I adopted our first puppy about 3 weeks ago, and she was usually in my wife's care.
But since my wife was out of town this week....well things changed alot! It's my first dog, I was nervous but it all turned out really well! On top of that, I got any many bite/scratch marks to proove it!
Other than puppy adventures, today's been great! Canceled work meetings, I'm cooking bbq ribs for later tonight and it looks like it will rain alot this weekend, so hurray to lazy days! :)
I am convinced that nothing in this world is sharper than puppy teeth. ;) What sort of dog is it, BTW? Got any pics?
p.s. Here is my little guy, Quincy (Olde English Bulldogge)... well, back when he actually was little... it's 3 years later and he is ~80lbs now. ;)
I swear to god that they are razor sharp.
We don't know what type of dog she is, but heres a pic..... let's see if you can help us define! :p
Meet Winona!
And another!
I think I heard her bark once.....
VERY GOOD!
good luck with your first puppy, puppies are very fun and yours is very cute!
Thanks so much!
She looks like she probably has some doberman! She's gonna be a beautiful dog. I work in a pet store with lots of canine visitors so I totally feel you on those puppy teeth :)
D'awww... she's a cutie. Her colour is really cool too.
No idea what kind of breed she might be though... maybe a cross between a chocolate lab and doberman, or perhaps a hound (beagle, foxhound, harrier, etc)? But if you're interested in finding out exactly, there are actually a bunch of dog genetic testing services out there now (e.g. Embark, DNA My Dog, etc). That's not something I would ever spend $200 on, but to each their own. :P
Nahhh no DNA for her! We like the mistery!
Just woke up. Full disclosure I am currently dealing with IBS and it has been some of the worst times of my life.
Oh that cant be fun! I hope you feel better soon!
Well now's a great time to do it! How will you have banging tunes during the weekend without changing the radio?
Today is the last day of the semester, and my days have been consumed with studying for the last math final I'll (hopefully) ever have to take--as this is the last class I need to satisfy my Math minor. I'm definitely glad the semester's over, as the amount of walking I need to do day-to-day has become unbearable as summer's edged in, but my anxiety for that exam has left a sticky film of disquietude on my cheery mood.
How'd it go?
I've been in the D.C area since Tuesday for work. I'm from the Missouri and this is my first out of town business trip.
I'm very ready to go home. I miss my wife. I miss my dog. I miss my bed. This training has been a complete waste of time and my companies money. Its been disappointing.
Hey, at least you got to visit a different city! I hope you're back home soon!
Thanks! I got back in Sunday, and got to take yesterday off since I was traveling over the weekend. It was neat to visit a new place, and I typically enjoy traveling like that. The night I posted that had just been a particularly hard one.
Thanks for the encouragement!
Glad to be of service! have a great week back!
I realised that some time ago I had cleaned my car without considering that pollen season was just around the corner, and now I'm pissed off that it's become all coated in dust, resin, fluffy pollen thingies and the such...
On the other hand I've come back to Germany from Italy after Easter break when I gorged myself with mom's food, and have already met the quota of 'weekly training' I had set myself, so I'm satisfied about that.
Nothing like home cooking.... and luckily i'm no too sensible to pollen, but I can relate.... Time to wash the car again ? Or drive really fast with hopes of all the pollen flying off :p
Man each time I go back I always pack up some goodies from home!
Honestly I'm not planning to touch the car up until the trees around the place stop blooming - It'd just be wasted effort cleaning it now :(
Then spend the time with a bottle of wine and enjoy the season!
I think I'm doing well so far! Got a migraine at work, but managed to shake it off and pull through! I've had daily migraines for the past four days (I'm blaming allergy season combined with all the barometric changes lately), I'm hoping I'm finally over the hump.
Also kind of impulse bought a used Surface Pro 5 that I am so pumped to receive. If anyone has experience with the Surface line I'd love to hear your thoughts, tips, and recommendations! It already has a type cover and I'm planning on buying the pen as well.
I can't believe my finals are happening next week. Once this semester's done I'll only have three more to go. I'm so anxious to dive into my career!
Keep the spirit off! Congratulations on being so close!
My father in law bought the Surface Pro (he is coming from a 4 -inch thick windows xp zombie machine) and he's been enjoying it throughly.... I'm sure you will too!
I've gotten a chance to play around with the Surface Pro and I'm really loving it! I'm super glad I bought it.
Provided my background check clears, I'm moving from temp employee to full time at my call center help desk job. Mixed feelings, in that I don't like the job much some days, but I'm good at it and other prospects have turned up dry. Also seeing a doctor about this wrist thing that has flared up, I think it's getting better, but it still flares up when typing a bunch, which is impacting the job.
Helped my parents move the old couch to the dacha. Lots of physical work. Good kind of work, but tiring nevertheless.
Got the old office chair in return. It was collecting dust at the dacha anyway. It's dirty, and it's a little broken – the back bends a bit too far backwards – but it's lots better than the cheap wooden chair I've been sitting my buttocks off for the last half a year.
Am tired. Stringing words is difficult. Hope y'all alright. See you lot later.
Whats the dacha?
A dacha is a country house – far away from the city – often with the land to raise vegetables and/or animals on. It's where Russian people go to relax, as well as to work on their yearly supply of veggies, which they then pickle or otherwise marinade and store for winter, or sell.
A regular dacha is modest in size, with fencing and a house itself, as well as a banya – a type of sauna – and outhouses (plumbing is not often available). Again, there may be land dedicated to growing produce.
The famous kinds of dacha are ones owned by rich people: politicians, high church officials, actors, musicians etc. Those tend to be large, with big houses and equally big fences. You can tell about the level of corruption in Russia by comparing a regular dacha with one owned by a mid-level Duma senator: the difference in size and ostensible wealth is staggering.
ohhh... you learn something new every day! Thanks for that!
