Fucking hell. You were in some sensitive shit as a fusion analyst, weren't you? It requires being eligible for Top Secret clearance, which, if memory serves, is above what special forces require of their field personnel.

It seems very impertinent to be as crude as I wish here, but – you were essentially a hacker, were you not?

You've carved quite a path for yourself, even outside of your military occupation. Goddamn this is fascinating. Now I want a book where you purposefully misname all of your surrounding personnel and operational details to tell the rough story of what happened.

I think, when I grow up™, I want to be a Mycologist. A research scientist, for certain. The trick is finding out how to get there while staying financially stable along the way.

Surely your previous experience in the military paints you in good light for a freelance gig or a dozen. You probably have some form of uncommon expertise in your field that others might find very useful in the business area.

Doing freelance work while studying in a separate field is quite an ask, but it seems to me there are options.

I'm taking the next few weeks off of work for my mental health, so I'm really looking forward to just slowing down and relaxing for a minute. What in really looking forward to though is a cross country road trip I have with my siblings coming up; we're gonna start in the Midwest Sunday and make our way to the West Coast by Wednesday. It'll be a lot of driving but we're waking up early to hit a lot of national parks.

There's a new girl at work I'm lovestruck with, not sure why. Some people like this feeling but for me it's a bit of a pain, it stresses me out more than anything. So I'm gonna mope around probably, that said I'm also a bit sick so it negates it somewhat.

I got a coffee with her once or twice, it's like desensitizing sessions. I'm still anxious around her but it's slowly getting better I think.

I'm preparing for my first lecture ever!

One of our universities have a math+programming competition for high schoolers, those who are good at it are freed from entry exams. The competition organizators also hold camp-like meeting twice a year, during which we meet, play games, go to nature, and listen to tons of lectures from professors and students from the university.

This year, they are low on organizators, and I mentioned that I'd love to have a lecture someday, that I like it and would like to get better at it. It turned out they thought it is a good idea as well, so suddenly I'll be having a short lecture this Saturday!

I'm really looking forward to this, and I'm quite a bit nervous as well. It'll be my first lecture of this type, and the longest thing I've ever presented, something around 60 minutes.

It'll be some basics about algorithms and such, so I fear that it'll be boring and complete waste of time for everyone in there. But I guess it's a good experience for me, and I'll be grateful that I did it.

I hope it will be at least a little bit interesting and I won't completely mess it up.

The computer i ordered is coming Wednesday, so ill be spending the day setting that up and downloading stuff that needs downloading. Nervous and excited. I've had my current computer for a nearly 9 years with only a graphics card and harddrive upgrade. It's been showing its age for awhile now but in the past few months its been struggling with the demands of Chrome. Not having to say a prayer whenever i switch my PC on is going to be a relief.

It's a customised prebuilt which i know is a bit sacrilegious to a lot of PC people but right price at the right time made me take the plunge. In the past when i have started looking at parts some other expense has always popped up or i've been told to wait a few months for X because they are going to go on sale etc.

I've never bought a prebuilt before so i think the only thing i have to do is add Windows which i'm still unsure of the best way to do it. Go for a clean install (key off ebay) or clone my current harddrive? Then i think its just a case of downloading all the programs i use on a regular basis and getting used to a new set up.

Usually, I'd say "working on Intergrid", 'cause that's what I've been doing for the last few weeks. But now, I feel like I'm starting to burn out on this task. I've been doing long coding sessions every day for as long as I've been doing this, and while it's exciting – both the process itself and seeing how a thing I work on takes shape and becomes alive – it's also taking a toll.

So... I dunno. What I know is: I want to be far away from anything web-related for some time.

Maybe I'll write something. I haven't written a story in a very long time. Something short and not tied into anything else, like I used to do back in 2012. I have a couple of things I put on the far end of the shelf that I'd like to explore.

Big work week for me - we have a huge demo coming up that I have to fly out to at the beginning of December, so it's closing stories and integrating things, and making sure we're in a good place for that.

I'm trying to finish up a few home projects, such as finishing up a few changes I've been working on for my 3d printer to make it a dual extrusion printer. I'd love to get that done and start printing out some things for people for Christmas, but more realistically my evenings will be filled with driving my children to the various activities that they do, and then falling asleep on the couch before going to bed with aching joints. The joys of being old! (I'm not even that old)

Finishing a song I started writing for my wife years ago so my best friend can slow dance with a gal he likes for the first time. My friend recently asked which songs of mine would make a good slow dance song, because he has a new love interest in a co-worker who said she's never slow danced before. The problem is, most of my recordings are lo-fi, rough sketches from an ongoing music journal I've kept for years. I decided to polish of a mellow one he can dance to with his friend.
