Hopefully (since wrangling the group is often challenging) I'll have my D&D group over! We've been playing online for years now since in-person games have become harder to manage, but most of us have been playing on and off since we were in high school, over a decade ago. :) I try to push to hang out in person whenever we can, a few times a year.

That said, I don't know if we'll be playing D&D, or just hanging out. :p

I'm thinking of making Hot Buttered Rum for it, especially since it's near the holidays. I'm trying something different with the recipe, namely...

    • "Washing" the rum with brown butter instead of mixing in whole butter. Basically, brown the butter, and while liquid, mix it up with the rum. Keep mixing it up now and then for half an hour to an hour, then chill it. After the butter solidifies, separate and strain it. As a result, you get rum with the taste of the brown butter, without actually containing all the fat and associated greasiness. (Idea courtesy of How to Drink specifically, but the idea has been around a while.)

    • Then infusing it to make a spiced rum. I basically just copied both the recipes for spiced rum and hot buttered rum batter from Smuggler's Cove, a book about tiki drinks. The spices: allspice, anise seed, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg, orange peel, peppercorns, vanilla. A part of me wants to experiment with some more flavors, but that might be a bit much for now. :p

Then, I can just add some of my butter-washed and spiced rum to a mug, add hot water, and have some nice hot buttered fum available for my guests. :)

I had one final exam today, did pretty okay, tomorrow I have another which I hope won't be much of a problem. That will be the last thing I have to do for school this year, feels good! Also, I am gonna go on a date tomorrow evening, for the first time in like half a year. Always makes me super anxious, but also very hopeful - maybe one day I can actually find someone, and maybe it will be this day? Probably not. But still, I hope it will be a good time and I won't embarrass myself too much. I am just happy to have another chance :).

I did my exam successfully, so that's nice. The date was extremely mediocre, the boy I met was either not very into me and/or even more awkward than me. Well yeah, he is awkward he even told me, but I don't know... After like 2 hours of talking he wanted to go, I even asked if he just wants to walk around for a bit, but he was like, if we go now we can still catch the tram. And I was like, ok I guess. Still happy to raise my DPY (dates per year).

I just chatted with him a bit for a few days before. If I went on dates only with guys I know, I would have been on zero dates. There are no gays in my friend group, and I definitely don't have the balls to ask a random guy I met in class or somewhere. But yeah I understand not wanting to go on dates with random people you don't really know, a few years ago I wouldn't be able to this too.
            Thanks for asking :).

Still working on the 7 segment display shader I'm making in Blender's Shader editor. It's convoluted and slow, but considering it's the only way to display an output value as numbers in Blender, a fun thing to build with maybe one or two use cases.

The Shader Editor normally is used to control the aspects of materials in blender, but through it's math nodes I was able to implement a NAND gate which means any other logic gate is also possible. Right now it's a display with 2 digits and 3 decimals, which takes a single value, converts that to 4-bit binary which in turn drives every segment, separately.

Since every digit has 203 NAND gates and there are 5 digits, this means there's 1015 NAND gates total. Every NAND gate consists of 4 math nodes, so there's about 4060 nodes total. Blender does not like that.

A few weeks ago I said here I was love-struck with a girl at work to a debilitating degree. Since then I talked to her a couple of times and it got much better, to the point I can engage with her like normal human being (more or less), although I'm still a bit nervous around her. The "funny" thing is that I don't really understand why I liked her in the first place, I mean she's nice and all, but my reaction was clearly disproportionate. In the end I'm happy, and even somewhat proud, that I managed to break out of it and meet her like she is. But man these fucking emotions, talk about making simple things complicated...

I've been involved with my HOA too. Even small rule changes take forever, thanks to meetings happening many weeks apart. I have a lot of respect for the long-time board members who have to deal with member problems, and also must work within the slow bureaucratic process dictated by law. All for no pay!

Freaking out over the holidays! Trying to get house and my room clean for the family and my SO! Trying to make sure I didn't forget any gifts for anyone and freaking out about how close christmas is and how quickly it's coming and how much more shit I need to do! I'm frankly getting stuck in my own head and I wanna scream but like, I also need to wrap presents... So pretty mundane other than me wanting to try to also make some chocolate truffles. Chef John (Food Wishes on youtube) made a video for them and of course they look super easy when he does them. Best of luck to me I suppose.
