Today I have hope
I'm at a pharmacy, distributing their vaccine after hours the second it came in. I'm typing this up while my pregnant wife is in line to get her vaccine. If I get lucky maybe I do too. If not, my heart is still lighter knowing that my family is safer.
I'm filled with joy knowing that there is light at the end of this dark tunnel.
Thank you all for putting up with my special blend of near-persistent 2020 mania. Hopefully this will finally calm it for awhile.
Yea, kids under 16 are in for a wait, especially the younger they get. I understand the need for safety testing, but it's nerve wracking as a parent.
I’m a so called essential worker but I don’t work in healthcare. Hopefully my wait isn’t too long...
I'm sorry you're in that situation. I hope it gets better soon, and I think it will. Pharmacists are starting to ramp up operations in anticipation of getting more and more in the coming weeks.
I'm a bit biased, but pregnant women should be very close to the front of the line, if only because it's a two-for-one benefit, and the youngest children are going to be some of the last to get it.
I agree with this, but isn't the 2-for-1 aspect also one of the reasons why they hesitate to recommend new drugs/vaccines to pregnant women? (because testing on pregnant women is doubly risky, and so they have less safety data)
I just had a big discussion with my doctor. For this particular vaccine, once it was shown to be safe in adults, it's safe for everyone. And at this point, risk from covid complications worse than risk of vaccine complications. Especially since young kids are last in line to get it.
All of these vaccines coming out are basically safe enough that if supply wasn't an issue, you could take all three with no ill effects.
