What did you do this weekend?
As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their weekend. Did you make any plans? Take a trip? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!
The weather was really nice, so I sat down for a few hours on Saturday and Sunday and finished reading Wuthering Heights out of doors. I actually got a little sunburn on my arm. It was relaxing (and thematically fitting) to keep away from buildings for a while. I don't live near a moor, but found a bench overlooking a large open field; slightly hilly, and reminiscent enough of the landscape Heathcliff and Catherine spend so much time in to help with the imagery. The trees around here are starting to bud, and I'm particularly excited for the row of cherry trees outside my window to bloom. Spring is such a lovely season!
I took my kids to my parents for an outdoor visit since it was so nice out. We brought some disc golf discs and did some practice throws - my son has gotten quite an arm and I was really impressed with his forehands and backhands. He's pushing 40m which isn't bad for someone that is six!
I usually try to bite off at least one home improvement project per weekend, but I didn't really do much this past weekend; just spent time with my kids outside as much as possible.
Went to my in-laws' house for our normal Sunday dinner. It was the last time I'll ever go to that house. They've lived there for almost 40 years through raising 3 kids, but they're selling it to downsize and move closer to the city center since they're near retirement. It's hard to believe because I first went there 15 years ago. A lot of memories made there, and the scenery is beautiful since it's on a creek on top of a mountain that runs to a nearby waterfall. I will miss it a lot, but the drive will be much shorter to their new place (10 v 30 mins)
It started pretty good. I got my first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. Then I went to go to this fancy hot dog place nearby the site where I got to eat some pretty good food.
And then my fiancé broke his tooth and found out his insurance just ended. He is getting it fixed up now but he has to wait until Saturday to see the dentist because of this. All the while he is in excruciating pain.
On top of this, Sunday was also our anniversary of when we met, and Amazon lost the present I was buying for my fiancé. And I am feeling sick as a result of this vaccine side effects.
Alban Eiler / Ostara / Spring Equinox celebrations!
I thought I had flight class this weekend but it is apparently this upcoming weekend. So instead I spent the weekend studying and playing MSFS 2020. I ended up splurging on the Thrustmaster T16000M flight sim set up with throttle and rudders. I also joined the VATSIM community which hooks into flight sims and allows a community to simulate ATC communications. I am about halfway through my FAA online ground school so I am hoping to have that completed soon.
On another note, Sunday morning at about 4:00 AM my significant other woke me up because a man was screaming for help outside. He was delivering newspapers with his 4 year old kid in the back, when he was carjacked. He apparently ran half a block screaming for help until he got close to our unit. We called 911 and told them what he told us and the police were here within a minute. I overheard the police say they had a cell phone ping so I have to assume it got resolved quickly without incident. I have checked the news since then and haven't seen anything, so I think no news is good news. Pretty scary and crazy experience overall though.
