What did you do this weekend?
As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their weekend. Did you make any plans? Take a trip? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!
Loki (my dog) and I went to our first dog agility trial! You can look through my post history for more details on what that is, but we did really well! No qualifying scores, but I was incredibly happy with his performance and ability to refocus on me when he got distracted (which was often, haha). We signed up for another trial in late July, so I’m hoping we can get some qualifying scores then!
That's very cool! What made you decide to get involved with that?
I was in the dog club of 4-H (youth organization) when I was a tween/teen. I used to compete in both obedience and agility way back then (20ish years ago). I guess I should say that this was my first trial in 3-4 years (injury took me out right after my very first trial as an adult).
Friday night I went to my sister's place later in the evening and played this light-up beanbag throwing game, aka Cornhole. It was pretty fun, and we played until fairly late in the dark.
On Saturday I took my family to my parent's house and we spent several hours lounging by the pool, which had too many leaves in it to swim, flying my drone and taking pictures, enjoying a cookout, having a bonfire, and other outdoor and socially distant activities.
On Sunday my wife took the kids to her parents, and I installed a small retaining "wall" (it's only 6 inches high, not much of a wall) in one of our front garden beds. I had a bit of a problem - I had to cut one of the 6x6 pieces and that proved to be quite difficult. Luckily I had a "pocket chainsaw" which got its first use. This week my wife will finish weeding the garden bed, and I will purchase some more mulch and our front gardens will be done.
I played a couple rounds of disc golf (Friday night, Sunday night) and slipped on a teepad and pulled something in my hip. I played a bit of a new (to me) game called Song of Horror which I'm not 100% sure about yet; I always want to like horror games like Amnesia: The Dark Descent, but I always end up putting them down relatively quickly.
Broke Kubuntu by deleting
/usr/lib/python3.9/dist-packages
because I wasn't paying attention. Fixed it with aptitude by reinstalling everything, and upgraded to KDE 5.22. I got Oblivion and Skyrim running via Proton just to see how they perform and managed to get my mods installed with a little extra work, and the only issue I have is a bunch of popping in Skyrim.I also bought a Logitech G600 for $30, because I've wanted an MMO mouse for years, and I can configure it in Linux via Piper and libratbag. Installing these programs from source was how I broke my Kubuntu install, actually. Piper can only do one layer of the two for the 12 side buttons, but I also think that may be enough buttons for me.
I saw my aunt and uncle for the first time since COVID.
We drove down and met them at a brewery, and spent the day hopping around between breweries, shops, restaurants etc. The next day we watched some campy SF (Resident Alien on SyFy) and went for a hike.
I have missed them both incredibly. We moved back to the NE recently, and they’re moving down south in a month or so, so I’m really really grateful we could see each other before they left.
Watched a bunch of E3 presentations. Worked on class and my piece for the Nickelodeon Writing Fellowship.
New fuel tank for the Tercel arrived, this one fits the fuel pump hanger and sending unit. The Tercel was never available with fuel injection, it only came carbureted, but the fuel tank part number matches that of the, much more famous, AE8x Corolla chassis which was available in both carbureted and fuel injected levels. So it stands to reason that if the carbureted fuel tank is the same then I should be able to swap over a fuel injected fuel tank. Thing is, Toyota stopped making the fuel tanks ages ago so you have to get them from a 3rd party (like many parts on old cars). The first tank I ordered was a bad copy of a more reputable aftermarket manufacturer and was about an inch too shallow to fit the fuel pump hanger, so I sent it back (I originally purchase it because the more reputable model wasn't in stock and $100 more expensive). The better version popped up so I bought the last one in stock and am happy to report that everything going into it fits perfectly.
So that's another step forward. Need to figure out which fuel injectors I want to use and pick up a fuel pump along with the new fuel lines and associated components. Grabbed some round stock as well as I need to lengthen the steering shaft to account for the crossmember drop, so will cut and weld that together after I have the permanent spacers in place. Which I also picked up recently from the same little independent machine tool/supply reseller. Lots of random stuff, good prices, weird hours. I'm making the spacers out of 1.5"x2"UHMW polyethylene with 1/8" aluminum bar top and bottom, so the crossmember drop will be 2.25" and give me a little more room for the engine and throttle body clearance with the hood.
And if all goes well today I should have some exciting news in the same sort of thread as the vehicles, will report back next week if that goes as hoped or not!
