I like the idea of a one-stop place to check multiple sites, but when the first screen in the app wants me to login with "web3"/cryptocurrency accounts it sets off my alarm bells and I've already uninstalled it. I'm not interested in cryptocurrency to begin with, let alone in involving it in the rest of social media.

The Badass that started Lifehacker back when it was great and useful- Gina Trapani made a thing called https://www.thinkupapp.com/ that was trying to do this AND provide a way to keep all your data yours. I never read exactly how or what happened to it, but only that it died.
If the world were a just place, OSS would bridge these gardens, provide data autonomy, identity authentication, etc etc. Alas… capitalism.

I still don't expect to go back to those sites with any regularity due to their content algorithms (mental health better without rage bait in my life), but this certainly makes it easier if I want to.
Are people really so desperate for Twitter and Threads cross posting to justify the app being published in this state?
The company told TechCrunch the app “informally uses the internal API” that the Threads web client uses, but it plans to migrate to the official API when one is released. Because of this hack of sorts, being able to use Threads via Yup means having to turn off Instagram’s two-factor authentication (2FA)

In tests, however, we couldn’t get some of these feeds to regularly update, even though we had connected our accounts. For that reason, we can’t recommend Yup as a dedicated browsing app.

There's no way I'm turning off 2FA. And I'm not logging in using web3/crypto. And because of that I won't meet this apps requirements for you to login to 3 services. Hard pass.

I’d guess they’re looking to get some movement on the Threads API with this attention, or looking for assistance in further development. Seems like a good way to get a signal boost via social media managers/“influencers”/PR people. There’s a solid philosophy behind “building in public”. Can’t collaborate if you have never heard of it.

You can think of it simply as a decentralized authentication service, if that helps. It has nothing to do with speculating on currency.
Not really, as I think that anything that normalizes or legitimizes cryptocurrency is a societal negative.
