looking for a particular kind of computer speaker
so I need computer speakers that
- are less than 6 inch high
- either the left or right speaker has controls that allow me to
- increase or decrease the volume
- have 3.5 mm headphone port [optional]
- button to power on/off [optional]
- wired, either via 3.5 mm headphone jack or USB-C cable
I've tried looking for it but I am having a damn hard time trying to find something that fits all these.
They're basic, but the creative pebble V2 might fit the bill. I don't think they have a headphone port, but they are small, wired, and have a volume knob that also functions as an off switch. I have some and they work fine when I use them, but I usually default to wired headphones so it would depend on your use case. They look nice and fit under the shelf on my desk, which was my primary requirement when speaker shopping
My wife has pebble, I think v3 though, and loves them.
I'll second these. Dandy little speakers that certainly punch above their weight.

These might be a little taller than 6 inches but have been great for me. They meet all your other requirements and are a good brand at this price point. Maybe this brand has a smaller model. I think the trick is searching for monitors instead of speakers.

A bit on the expensive side but seems to hit most of your marks are the Kantu YU2 Powered Speakers
The knob for volume control and headphone jack is on the rear.
