But seriously, I don't understand WHY they kept making them in the first place, especially as the years passed and they just get worse. They're SO tone deaf and take absolutely no stance whatsoever and ignore everything that's happening on youtube and all of their policy changes that harm creators. It's infuriating for them to act like they do anything more than host. Youtube as a corporate entity is is not part of the good things on youtube. Their rewind videos feel so fake.
I don't know why they bothered doing those videos in the first place; the site administration's rep. is so bad that the only decent content to come out of it is the piss-takes.

There's also the obviously poor reception of the videos since ~-2016 and more clearly so since 2018, since "youtuber" is to an extent precarized labor like gig work, given the near total lack of rights or transparency creators are given and YouTube doesn't (and to an extent can't) care about that.
