Oh nooooo what ever shall we do with a tone deaf, useless piece of corporate propaganda? But seriously, I don't understand WHY they kept making them in the first place, especially as the years passed and they just get worse. They're SO tone deaf and take absolutely no stance whatsoever and ignore everything that's happening on youtube and all of their policy changes that harm creators. It's infuriating for them to act like they do anything more than host. Youtube as a corporate entity is is not part of the good things on youtube. Their rewind videos feel so fake.

I don't know why they bothered doing those videos in the first place; the site administration's rep. is so bad that the only decent content to come out of it is the piss-takes.

I'm adding "very likely" because they never officially say it out loud. There's also the obviously poor reception of the videos since ~-2016 and more clearly so since 2018, since "youtuber" is to an extent precarized labor like gig work, given the near total lack of rights or transparency creators are given and YouTube doesn't (and to an extent can't) care about that.

YouTube will cancel its annual “Rewind” video, the controversial look back at the past year.

It has proven controversial in the past, as fans regularly disagree with who is included and left out of each video.

The 2018 recap became the site’s least popular video ever – after excluding high-profile people such as PewDiePie, and including celebrities famous from outside of YouTube – and the 2019 version attracted ire too.

YouTube did not indicate definitively whether or not the video would come back in 2021.

Yeah the same thing happened to me. I was barely aware of a “YouTube culture” to be frank, the mere notion that something as vast as YouTube actually has A culture that can be summarized at all seemed absurd. Maybe that’s why these videos don’t work anymore.
