    The Disney exemption tells you everything you need to know: The goal is more economic and political than out of any sense of good will. They've gotta protect that cash cow.

    However, they also don't need the exemption. Disney went through the trouble of establishing a municipality, and isn't likely to leave. They could sue, but I even doubt they'd go that far, since Disney doesn't seem to be interested in operating a social media site anyway. Whoever wrote the bill basically shot themselves in the foot for no reason.

        Picture someone with a holstered handgun on the strong side of their body (ie, right side of the body for a right handed person). They draw the gun, and if they do it sloppily and unsafely, may have their finger already on the trigger as they're pulling upwards. Boom, negligent discharge, and the foot is a pretty likely target in that case.

        So "shot themselves in the foot" started out as a very literal expression for someone who fucked up in a loud, painful, and completely avoidable way.

        You got me curious, and I found this explanation. Apparently there was a rash of soliders in WWI who conveniently shot themselves in the foot completely by accident when they were called into battle.
