Location of votes button on posts
I've not fully considered the design decision and may be missing important aspects of it, but I wonder if the votes button on posts might be better situated on the left. This would make its placing more consistent with the comments' vote button location.
I ask because I notice that I tend to often forget to vote upon a post in a way I don't with comments. I think this is because on a widescreen the button is in a part of the screen where one's focus is not drawn, far from the rest of the relevant content.
This was on purpose, the purpose is to focus on the content not the vote count.
Interesting, I had never put any thought into the location of the vote button before this thread. Thanks for bringing it up OP. I have to be honest, now that I am aware of it, I actually really like it being on the right, rather than the left. I find it less distracting (given that English starts sentences from the left, and tildes is in English). On places like reddit you can't miss it, I dislike that. If there was a way to hide scores in general (both threads and comments), I'd love that. (Not a complaint or a request, I understand the utility for tildes: it helps sort relevant articles, and probably place comments in a thread. I just mean to say, it's not something I care about to see personally. So it's kind of the best of both worlds to have it in a less distracting place)
You can always mess with Stylus to move stuff around. I use Stylus to change everything... but more importantly, I hide vote counts across the site, since that count is meaningless.
