Missing messages?
Has anyone else noticed that sometimes the Tildes homepage will say "1 new message", but when clicking on this the message inbox is empty?
I guess this is because messages are being deleted after being sent? It's slightly annoying because I can't find a way to dismiss the "new message" notification.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that happens when someone deletes their reply to you (or their comment gets removed by @Deimos) in between when you last refreshed tildes, and when you actually clicked the notification link. So the notification still shows up on whatever tildes page you were on, but the message no longer exists in the system.
If I reload the page, the problem persists though. The issue I have is with private messages (not comments). I see a notification saying "1 new message" but when I click on it I can't see any messages, and I can't find a way to dismiss the notification.
I fixed the "1 new message" notification for you. I'm not really sure how that could have happened in the first place, but I'll see if I can find anything.
Life of a dev, I spend so much time trying to figure out how some of my users do some of the stuff they do 😂
You should try feeding random numbers into your programs, they're almost as unpredictable as user behaviour :)
Looking at how random numbers are generated, some would say users are more unpredictable.
Thank you!
Oh, that is definitely unexpected behavior then. AFAIK nobody can delete private messages, except @Deimos. And I don't know if he's even ever done something like that, since I imagine it would only ever happen in the case of harassment or something similarly egregious. But even then I would expect the notification to disappear on refresh. So I might have to file a bug report for this.
I've only been using the app for a couple weeks, but I couldn't get any messages from the notification menu. I had to use the browser.
Ah – I only use the website, not the app but still can't see the messages.
Which app and OS? There is no official app so that app's dev may like to be made aware of a bug if that app is supposed to show you messages.
3 cheers on Android
If it's 3 Cheers for Android then it's the bell icon on that lower nav bar. Was a more recent feature so check the app is up to date.
To clarify, 3C4T will show public comment replies, but doesn't support private messages yet as of v0.6.
Aha! That makes sense, thank you for the clarification.
And thank you for the app. Long term RIF subscriber so really happy that you made 3 Cheers too.
It's 3 cheers and I cannot see DMs in that menu unless I am missing something. I just see notifications of replies to my comments
As @talklittle (the developer) said, it does not support DMs yet.
