change your password using a random number generator and send it to someone you trust (or barely know and can contact you via other means). Tell them to return it to you in no less than 7 days....

This is what I do. Having to enter my password to edit it as root is generally enough of a discouragement that I go back to whatever I'm actually supposed to be doing.
