Hermit also allows RSS feeds as a notification mechanism, but since Tildes doesn't have those I doubt that's what they're using :P

I don't think that this would be viable as long as there isn't an Tildes app, and Tildes apps will only start appearning once the API is available.
E: Seems like there is an notifications API that could be used, so maybe that feature could come faster.
That functionality does not exist yet. However, there is an issue for it in the to-do list.
