Simple script to open tilde.net links in new tab
I suggested already to have a setting in the profile to allow the user to decide if links should open in new tab so you won't lose the content you were being on this website. In the meanwhile I made a very simple script that does that for you using tampermonkey.
The script: https://gist.github.com/theCrius/04dc86bea0ed0f1cbec7e57f1aaff9aa
Tampermonkey: http://tampermonkey.net/ (available for all browsers)
A quick tutorial on how to do it, step by step with images: https://imgur.com/a/pY51wn2
Edit: Updated to open only link in comments in new tab. The rest of the navigation will load in the same tab by default.
I noticed I missed an * in the userscript meta. I update the gist and it should work now :)
I'm sure the devs will implement this feature soon enough anyway!
Therrrrre goesss myyyy hero (that's you @crius).
I am a new tab lover as well so until @deimos adds the option for us to choose whether to open links in new tab or not in the settings, this will save me a ton of heartache from accidentally opening links in the same tab and losing my place. Thanks a ton!
Uhmm.... don't people just click on the link with the middle mouse button to open them in new tabs? That's what I usually do, anyway. I honestly didn't even know that tildes links did not open in new tabs because I've only ever middle-clicked on one.
I know, I'm odd. :P
Also - make a note, today is the beginnings of the Tildes Enhancement Suite, right here in this thread. ;)
You're not wrong but both reddit+res and google settings spoiled me in having the website give me that preference.
On the other side my RAM hates me.
I ctrl+click when I have no other option which is what I have been doing up until now... but middle click is awkward some times especially with my mouse. On mobile you have to hold a link down for like 2-3 seconds til the popup appears then click again on 'open in new tab'. And I constantly screw it up on both desktop and mobile and load the link in the same tab which makes me lose my place in threads and on the front page. So I would just prefer an option in settings that defaults the behavior.
Just updated to only open links in comments in new tab, every other link will load in the same tab (you don't want to open a new tildes.net tab whenever you click on a group or your profile): https://gist.github.com/theCrius/04dc86bea0ed0f1cbec7e57f1aaff9aa
Thanks a ton, again. I can't wait to see you unleashed on the opensource project. ;)
God I love that song :)
Thank you but I see already that the simple script has lots of small issues. It's good enough of a band-aid while a proper system is implemented but nothing exceptional.
No reason in building the next RES for tildes while it's still in alpha anyway so... ;)
thanks! (couldn't get it to work yet though, I'll check it out another day :))
