It's amazing that Elon would rather jeopardize the entire business over giving workers even a modicum of protection. How vile of a human being do you have to be to reach this level. It's...

How vile of a human being do you have to be to reach this level. It's cartoonish really.

I hope workers in other countries follow suit and strike alongside their Swedish counterparts.

The largest union in Norway has announced they will block any attempts to import Teslas intended for the Swedish market through Norwegian ports, at least. But even in Norway, which is very similar to Sweden with the entire economy structured around collective bargaining and a very high degree of unionization, Tesla workers are afraid of unionizing. One article I read said the Norwegian equivalent of the IF Metall union has a secret spreadsheet of Tesla mechanics who are members - because they're afraid of losing their jobs if it comes out that they're organized. I can't even imagine how hard it is to organize in other countries with much weaker labor movements.

It's the tragedy of the commons. Nobody wants to put their head on the chopping block first, but it takes a critical mass to topple the whole guillotine. It seems in Sweden, maybe, they've found that critical mass. This strike isn't just a kamikaze run by a couple hundred workers. They're backed by an umbrella organization that organizes more than a million workers across almost every industry in the country. They see this as a direct attack on the rights of all Swedish workers. And if they win, it will probably embolden workers in other countries too. But I don't expect a lot of solidarity strikes while it's still up in the air whether the Swedes will succeed.

If they let Tesla do whatever they want then that would be the wedge that let's other corporations start busting unions there. Good for them for standing up. Fuck Musk.
