Spoiler: Having our absolute favourite character Hugo recently come back, only to be ripped away as an illusion was just terrible lol

Jared Harris is an amazing actor. There's a reason he won an Emmy for best acting in a miniseries for Chernobyl.

    I finally started watching Yellowstone.

I had high expectations from the prequels 1883 and 1923.

Yellowstone isn't even close in quality. Poor writing, unrealistic story telling. It is a soap opera with a lot of unrealistically casual murders. Some good acting. Some interesting side plots with minor characters.

I have put off watching this show because it wasn't convenient, but then a friend kept suggesting it because I'm Native American, even though I'm Cherokee (sigh,) and that just turned me off even more, not to mention Kevin Costner and the whole "Dances With Wolves," thing.

Nowadays, I'm just hearing how bad it is, and I'm glad I never dipped my toes into it.

Interesting to read this... I watched Yellowstone and somewhat enjoyed it (despite agreeing with you on your general observations, I consumed it as casual popcorn entertainment), but figured the prequels would just be more of the same so wasn't planning on watching those. But you're saying they're significantly better than the show they spun off from?

1923 was basically a soap opera, but monumentally better done than Yellowstone.

I just started watching I'm a Virgo because I'm a fan of Walton Goggins and the premise sounded interesting. It's way weirder than I anticipated, but in a good way. The stylized FX is unique and really gives the show its own character. I would strongly recommend watching it based on the 3 episodes I have seen thusfar.

I'm a Virgo is fantastic! I wish I could get others to watch it because it's really difficult to explain the appeal, and the parts I can explain are so oddly specific or niche that nobody would be interested. Things like when they needle-dropped a song from the Akira soundtrack, or how the high speed effect is just chopped up frames of guys in odd colored full bodyform suits, or even how most of the effects are practical instead of CG.

Having finished all 7 episodes now I can say that the ending was incredible. Could not ask for a finer, succinct takedown of Capitalism, and how it all even led to that point was mindblowing....

Boots Riley has quite the interesting mind. Kind of surprises me that he even got the funding to make this, even if Sorry To Bother You was critically acclaimed (rightfully so).

I will also be recommending this one to everyone I know.

Finished Twisted Metal and genuinely enjoyed it. It’s an entertaining campy dystopian mess with explicit violence and gore; not the type of show that usually gets made or renewed. I hope we get a couple of more seasons.

Finished Curb your enthusiasm S11. Solid season.

Finished Silo and couldn’t take not knowing what happens next so i got the audiobook (Wool) to scratch the itch. It complements the show well, deviates in some minor points but is generally faithful.

Will continue The Leftovers S2 , I’m a couple of episodes in and it’s getting interesting. But this show requires some emotional reserve to get through.

My partner and I just started season 1 of Invasion on AppleTV, I hadn't heard of it before but I guess the pre-season 2 marketing caught up to me so we decided to give it a shot. The premise seems interesting enough, kind of like a mash-up of Independence Day, World War Z (the book), and Arrival. Partner didn't appreciate that I kept making Event Horizon references whenever Sam Neill was on screen though lol. Looking forward to Season 2, AppleTV has been pretty great at sci-fi the last few years with For All Mankind, Foundation, and Silo being some excellent productions

Apple has been on quite the roll haven't they? I'm as surprised as anyone else at this LoL, but whatever criteria they're using to select projects is working for me

I've had the opposite problem with them. I'll see something and think it's incredible only to be bored when I actually watch, but I'll pick a random program and be completely enthralled. I thought that Ted Lasso was absolutely not for me, but I found it to be so good.

I've really started to appreciate their approach to their streaming service, though. Most of the others feel like they're just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks, while Apple's doing only their own productions and has a relatively tiny amount of stuff being produced and released at any given time. I guess you'd call it curated. I feel like they're basically the new HBO.
