I only watched season 1 (and enjoyed it), but plugging "Star Trek: Lower Decks" into this site indicates I should at least see season 2, as it is as good or better. And ignoring S3E7, season 3 is a safe bet as well.
S3E7 is weak overall but tied into the overall arc of the series, and at 25min of actual runtime it's enjoyable enough that it's worth it. I think it gets a low rating because the protagonist is intentionally annoying.
I had to check which it was. It's the Peanut Hamper returns episode. I thought it was hilarious, I didn't know it had such a low rating. The twists and turns, subverted expectations, and... er.. weird stuff. Worth watching IMO.
Totally, people just don't like Peanut Hamper because they are an unlikable character haha.
I've been watching it over the past few days after I saw people recommending it in the Ahsoka thread (I have been meaning to for a while but this was a good push). The first few episodes of season 1 didn't grab me much, which seems to track with the IMDb reviews, but I was loving it by the end of S1 and blew through S2. I actually stopped on S3E7 last night and I can see why it wasn't rated as well. Very fun show overall, though.
It helps that I'm familiar with a lot of the voice actors, mainly from being guests on the podcast Comedy Bang Bang and related projects (Tawny Newsome and Eugene Cordero in the main cast of LD and Jessica McKenna, Lauren Lapkus, Carl Tart, and Paul F. Tompkins as recurring cast, among others in the guest cast), along with knowing Jack Quaid from The Boys (he's also been on CBB). Newsome and Tompkins actually host the official Star Trek podcast if anyone is interested.
I'm looking forward to S4 starting soon, and I was glad to hear it's already been picked up for a 5th season.
Personally I loved season 2.
if you're into trek, none of these episodes are stinkers. There are so many references to make up for any weakness.
The opening joke about Golden Gate bridge was not good, in Star Trek pedestrians are king - they do not transport everywhere (and the episode later made this a plot point of breaking into transporter museum). The Golden Gate would always be a cool pedestrian crossing with great views.
