Anyone out there into FAST? (Free advertising-supported streaming TV)
I have a NVIDIA shield which runs Android TV and if you install apps like Tubi and Pluto the schedules all appear in the same interface. It’s a lot like a cable box or OTA with an absurd number of channels. You don’t see first-tier “prestige television” but you see lots of reruns of broadcast TV shows (like Star Trek) and cable shows (like My Cat From Hell) as well as local news from TV stations in various cities (maybe I am the only one but I like this) and anime (Sailor Moon and Hunter x Hunter with English subtitles, as well as recent Korean Isekai) and the old movies that that article talks about.
Even in sports there is an interesting offering that includes South American soccer and reruns of recent games and legendary old games of the NFL and MLB and combat sports, etc.
I think anybody who likes linear TV (I am a sucker for reruns of Columbo or Sliders or Farscape on off-brand OTA networks) would find something to like.

What do you think about FAST?
Starting in middle-school I had access to a DVR. Since moving out on my own, I've been spoiled by ad-free streaming services.
Needless to say, I can't even fathom going back to a world where my movies and TV shows are randomly interrupted by videos telling me to buy shit I don't need.

For now the advertising load on FAST is less than on broadcast or cable but that may change. Some programming has a different model, for instance soccer games are 90+ minutes of people running punctuated only by a 15 minute halftimes. Ads are on the jerseys and on signs surrounding the field and on-screen graphics and don't interrupt the game, etc.

Things I have watched on Tubi recently:
Safe House: a movie where Patrick Stewart is either the last member of a Hellfish-style tontine or an old man with dementia
The Critic: the fantastic Jon Lovitz animated series that I believe Tarantino was going to adapt into his tenth and final film until recently.
I would also suggest using your library card with Kanopy and Hoopla. You'll get access to a ton of free movies and TV shows without any advertising.

I absolutely despise watching ads, so if I can pay to avoid them I will.
I think that ads are bad for society so I avoid most things that are ad-supported these days.

Not sure if it’s available in your neck of the woods, but Pluto has the original run on demand.

I love Tubi. It’s a great place to watch a ton of exploitation films, they also have a surprising amount of classic films.
