I wish they just would have kept going with Lower Decks, even if it meant adjusting the focus away from Mariner, Boimler, Tendi and Rutherford in order to keep to the theme.

Sadness just now in learning that Lower Decks is gonna end this season. Can't believe it debut during the start of the pandemic and it's been coming up to five years already (something something 5 year mission). The crossover episode with Strange New Worlds was especially nice. I really liked how the series explored the meta of Star Trek in ways that other series didn't. They should make a movie series :)
I agree. Even with the focus being pretty tight on the four main characters, I thought Lower Decks had a fun ensemble and would enjoy seeing the other characters get more of the limelight. I...

Is it weird to look at this headline and actually consider that pretty ballsy in terms of creative risk-taking, lol? It’s like producers only being able to speak the language of established billion dollar franchises and that is spelling out “we want to try something new” in corporate tongue. I mean, kinda sad but I admire it on some level.
I think this was called "The Orville". :-)
The Orville turned into the best modern Trek by mid season two, and Star Trek is turning into Orville. Wonderful.

Although this show started as a comedy, it slowly morphed into a drama with occasional jokes. And a pretty good one in my opinion.
Up until SNW I would have argued strongly that Orville was hands down the best of the modern Trek shows. It's still really good.

Rumor is The Orville is getting another season and I can't wait.

I don't know what to think or feel about this, but I adore Star Trek and will give it a shot if it makes it to my screen.
If you haven't seen Lower Decks, you definitely should give it a go. It's awesome!
I've recently picked it back up. Left it hanging between seasons 2 & 3. It's fun!
