So I’ve finally started Band of Brothers and currently only have one episode left. I don’t think I can add that much that hasn’t been said before just that it holds up amazingly well for a show that’s 24 years old. It’s like 10 mini movies very well made. Both my wife and I are not that into war themed shows or movies but this is just so well made that it’s impossible not to like it. It made me wanna watch Saving PR again and I also picked up reading Bloodlands again.
The sister show The Pacific is a good follow up watch to Band of Brothers. Just be wary though, BoB is so damn good and well made that any other show like it pales in comparison. It’d be like watching a spin off to The Wire, or a prequel movie to The Sopranos…
Yeah, through the years The Pacific is always mentioned when talking about BoB but I know deep down I'm probably never going to watch it for the reasons you mentioned. There's just too many other show I've rather watch or even rewatch.
Oh wow 24 years ago! I just aged like matt damon in saving private ryan. Anyway BoB is an amazing show and iv seen it several times now. It still hits hard every time so in a couple years you can rewatch it and it will still be just as good. I might have to do a rewatch now that I think of it.
If you haven't already, add in Generation Kill to the list of war shows. Really great.
I have just finished Severance S2 and I was... Whelmed? There was some fun scenes in new rooms, interesting new people, and some answers for first season mysteries, but... It just didn't hit like the first season and despite knowing it has been renewed for a 3rd season, I'm ambivalent about continuing. I wonder at what point the writers knew they had a 3rd season? Because the finale felt pretty final. Oh well, fingers crossed.
I actually felt like it was a whole lot more focused than the first season. But at the same time there were definite stylistic and storytelling differences so I can understand not liking the changes. It seems like they had a different goal in making this one versus the last one.
No shade meant, but I feel that trying to unravel Lumon as if it were a real world mystery seems kind of counterproductive. Lumon is a metaphor; it’s best if you don’t think about them in concrete terms.
I felt the same way about the second season, though to be fair, they did have a tough act to follow. Tramell Tillman (Mr. Milchick) is amazing though. His performance in the finale was 😚👌
I really did not like the second season of Severance. It really feels like a show that has no real interest in getting specific about what's going on, and far more invested in being mysterious. There were so many opportunities for Patricia Arquette's character to actually answer some questions, but instead everyone is evasive and vague. It gets to be too much.
I started getting seriously tired of watching people enter rooms, staring into a corner looking bewildered or scared, and then us the audience finally finding out what they were looking at two or three episodes later.
Sorry to hear that. I guess I was ok with most of the answers we got and not too upset about the questions that remain unanswered and the new mysteries.
I thought it was overall ok and I really enjoyed Dylan's 'affair' with his Outie's wife and getting an answer to what MDR was actually doing. I'm curious who the other test subjects were for the files the other refiners worked on.
I started Swarm it's enjoyable but not really good, I normally like about everything where Donald Glover is involved, this one has not clicked yet after 2 episodes.
we made it to the same spot. I remember liking the aesthetic of the show, but I just wasn't in to the story. Did you like Glover in 'Mr and Mrs Smith'?
I gave it a chance only because Glover was in, I had very low expectations, but the show was much better than expected, the two main protagonist had a great dynamic together, I could not believe how enjoyable were the relationship parts, did you like it @tomf?
I really liked it! could be wrong, but I think it brought black briefs back in style :)
But yeah, absolutely unexpected chemistry. Some of the best casting of the year. The locations were stellar, too. I really didnt expect much from it, but they brought a fresh angle to the whole thing -- pretty fun.
I know they've claimed it's an anthology series, but I hope that's a fake out and Donald Glover and Maya Erskine are back for season 2. No spoilers for that finale, but you know...
Donglover is so good about not over-saturating like so many people in his situation where he's got music, acting, writing, directing to bring out. Its good restraint.
Even though we're all in Darius's float-dream, I'm also on board with at least one more season with the two of them. It'd be cool if they did one or two with another couple and then we had them again as a little surprise.
