A while back, I watched Mrs Davis on Peacock and loved it.
A world-spanning search (ala Indiana Jones) with the characters working through their issues of belief, faith, identity and trust.
And also, it's a comedy.
I'm was surprised that I liked it so much, being atheistic and all...
There's no cliffhanger, nor a season 2 coming out in 3 years. It's basically a 10 episode miniseries with a satisfying conclusion.

I just finished watching it last weekend. Loved it, it was totally bat shit insane - in a good way
Been watching Mr. Robot over the last two months or so. Trying to pace ourselves so we don't finish too quickly. Almost at the end of Season 3 now. Good show, overall, but quite sad. I'll need something lighter after this for sure.

The show feels like Jeckyll & Hyde meets Hackers. I like both, so I like this!I saw two shows from this decade that aren’t really talked about anymore but were at the time.
I Know This Much Is True (2020)
This was all written and directed by Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine) back when TV was doing the whole, prestige eight hour movie thing.
I liked this a lot. It might be my favorite thing that Cianfrance has ever made. Ruffalo did two performances months apart. He did all his scenes for one twin brother, and then gained weight to play the other brother.
I love the look of the show. There’s an episode that takes place in 19th century Italy, and it is just so gorgeously shot. It made me want to see Cianfrance direct his version of The Brutalist.
I was reading reviews of it at the time, and I was surprised to find that people were mixed on it. A lot of people calling it trauma porn.
I loved it. It’s such a human tragedy. And it’s a lot more engrossing than you would expect something like this to be.
The Idol (2023)
I’ve seen bits and pieces of Sam Levinson’s Euphoria. The only full thing I’ve seen from him is Malcolm and Marie. Although Assassination Nation has been on my watchlist for years.
This was a project that was birthed by The Weeknd. And it’s very similar to tone and style to the film he spawned Hurry Up Tomorrow despite that being a completely different creative team.
The big controversy here is that the show was 80% done with a different writer and director, Amy Seimetz. Her version of the show was scrapped because The Weekend determined that she was leaning too much into “the female perspective.”
I liked Lily Rose-Depp a lot in this. I think it’s a great performance, especially since she’s naked a lot and doing really graphic sex scenes with The Weeknd. It’s a beautiful looking show, Sam Levinson has a really good eye for aesthetics. And the soundtrack is really good. The story is weird, it’s clearly The Weeknd trying to be sexy, and it amounts to a big nothing burger.
The original version was about Depp playing a Disney star breaking bad. And discovering her sexuality. Like how Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato did. More specifically Selena Gomez, who The Weeknd dated and the show was loosely based on. That’s a significantly more interesting project.
But still it’s a cool looking show with cool music. It made me think about watching Euphoria, even though everything I know about that show and everything I’ve seen from it makes me a bit grossed out.
I'd love to see Amy Seimetz's story. Did you ever watch The Girlfriend Experience series? It wasn't perfect, but I liked it. I really like (most of) Amy Seimetz's work, though.
I haven’t. But what surprised me when I was looking her up was that she’s primarily an actress.
Yeah, she was great in Upstream Color and then it felt like she was popping up in everything for a time.
She was married to Carruth was another thing.
When I saw her picture I was like oh she’s really pretty especially for a writer/director. So when I realized she was an actress it made sense. Like I thought she was the showrunner for the new Handmaid’s Tale show but she’s just in the cast.
I had a similar thing with Sian Heder who wrote and directed CODA, who was also an actress before transitioning into directing
I have started watching Resident Alien as I'm really enjoying the Once We Were Spacemen podcast. Liking it so far.
Gotta get back to that one. 2nd season lagged a bit tho.
This was a very good show. One of the better shows to come from SyFy channel. Which is high praise actually.
I have started up Star Wars Visions again. I dropped it a year ago in the middle for season 2 for reasons I don't quite remember but it's been fun. Once I'm fully caught up. I'm planning to watch the standalone series Ninth Jedi I believe. I do hope Disney continues these animation projects for the franchise. It's so much fun!
