My household makes a soup once a week in the Fall thru the early Spring.

All are homemade. Some of our favorites:

-Chicken and wild rice. (Essentially, a chicken noodle, with rice instead of noodles).
    -Seafood Chowder
-Spicy Sausage, Potato, and Kale soup.
    -Cheddar Broccoli
-homemade Tomato soup w/ oven roasted tomatoes.
    -Venison Chili
    -Beef chili
    -White chicken chili
-Pho (slightly altered recipe, without star of anise).

At least two or three of these are made monthly. These are the most consumed, in our house.

I purchased a Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year. My nieces, nephews (young kids) and older kids (high school and college age).

I purchased several games. Mario Kart, DK, Yakuza, Sonic Racing, Persona 3R, Madden, Nickelodeon fighters, NBA 2k and Pokemon ZA.

I am not a big gamer anymore. That said, I play a bit with the younger kids.

I can honestly say, Pokemon ZA is the most fun first party game on NS2. I have never played a pokemon game previously, so this is no comparison to previous entries.

The simple battle mechanic is extremely fun and engaging. If you are not hung up on the graphics, it is very fun to play with the kids. I am told Pokemon ZA will connect to Pokemon Champions? If this is true, then there is incentive to play and catch as many as you can.

I can not judge the story, but the kids are really enjoying it. The battle mechanics are fun. It is the NS2 game I am most pleased with published by Nintendo.

It released very late in the SNES lifespan. Right around the time PlayStation was arriving on the scene.

For a time it was considered the greatest game of all time. Back prior to Zelda OoT.

So is Luigi mansion 2 or 3 better? I always thought those games were aimed at the 10 year old to 15 year old audience? Or approximately. About he same as the Splatoon audience.

Honestly, if you all have games to STAY AWAY FROM as well, i will take those recommendations. Thanks.

I also like having the library, because it takes the children’s minds off of what their parent is going thru.

Edit: my wife was anti the Switch 2 at first, but now she agreed. So i watched the Nintendo Direct and saw the games coming.
But i am more interested in the games out this year, hoping I won’t need to pay attention in 2026 to Nintnedo.

    Hello everyone,

Gamers’ I need your advice. Due to a serious family illness, my nieces and nephews age 4 to 15 will be spending a lot of time at my home for the foreseeable future.

I also have a college age kid, who is home occasionally and will play a few sports games and fighting games. He is head of the Fighting Game club at his universities club.

I am looking to entertain the kids as we move towards winter and also keep my house in one piece.

I purchased a NS2 w/ Mario Kart World, Minecraft, Shinobi, SFVI, NBA 2k26, Star Wars Outlaws and BoTW.

I am going to purchase a few more Switch 2 titles and a few Switch 1 games. (Hopefully on a B2G1) sale. I do not need to purchase all at once. Likely, I’ll buy 1 or 2 a month. Or hope for a b2g1 sale.

I am LOOKING FOR RECOMMENDATIONS from everyone.

I already preordered Dragon Quest 1&2HD2D and Mario Galaxy 2.

    Games I am considering.

    Luigi mansion 3
    Sonic racing Cross World
    Persona 3 reload
Super Mario Bros U Deluxe (you can play as Peach?)
    Mortal Kombat Collection
    Madden or EA FC
Metroid Prime 4 ( I don’t know what to make of this game. Is it Metroid BoTW?)
    Bomberman R
    Paper Mario Thousand year door
Links awakening or echoes of wisdom?

I am looking to have some variety so there is something for everyone.

These kids already have a Switch 1 w/ mario kart 8D, smash, Mario 3d World, Minecraft and a bunch of Kirby games.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you in advance!

Side note: My kids had a Wii U when they were young and i am somewhat familiar with those games.

I actually think for the high school and college age audience this could be a low key hit for the holidays.

So, the odd thing I found about the Pokopia. Is my nephew instantly knew who the girl pokemon was and the others were without any prompting. He also shouted “it’s like Minecraft”. So, a very small sample size, but Nintendo may have something there.

Second, you are 100% right about Nintendo not having any real experience with service games. There is an old interview with Miyamoto and other Nintendo execs and they were asked about Minecraft, and they said “we had an idea for something similar to Minecraft on n64” but didn’t see the mainstream appeal. They also stated that they were confident they could create that experience now.

I 100% disagree with this. I don’t think they could. Nintendo would need to lower the barrier to entry and at the very least would need to have their game on every platform. Or at least mobile/pc/Nintendo. I just don’t know if they are willing to do that.

We have to wait and see on Metroid. Clearly now it was delayed for some reason, and should have been out sooner. December is usually a month where games go to die. Nintendo has been Abe to avoid this however with Smash, Xenoblade and a couple of smaller titles. Releasing in December also removes it from GoTY consderation. But again, SO MUCH is unknown we have to wait and see what MP4 actually is.

Hopefully we get more answers soon.

So, you want the “hot take”, I’ll throw my $.02 in as well.

What was Nitnendo’s business objective of this Direct?

First, I believe Nintendo was trying to shine the light on smaller IP or experimental titles as they wait for the following:

1.) for “early adopters” to buy up NS2.
2.) To maximize the end of the NS1’s life and massive user base with cross gen titles.
3.) Keeping their BIG IP spread out and the heavy hitters (Animal Crossing, Smash, 3d Mario, new 3d Zelda) will be released strategically around the ps6 handheld launch.

Now let’s talk about the other problem Nintendo has. Average age of a Nintendo console buyer is in their 30’s. This is not unique to Nintendo, Xbox and Playstation have the same problem. But, Nintendo is fighting battles on multiple fronts at the moment.

1.) Fighting Roblox, Palworld and other F2P games that target younger or mobile/pc players. (Roblox specficially, it would appear Nintendo clearly hates).
2.) NIntendo’s need to appeal to younger audiences, and lower the barrier to entry to get into games for young audiences.
3.) Nintendo needs to develop new and wider variety of IP/titles to keep newer users engaged and expand reach.
4.) Nintendo wants to reestablish older IP like DK to expand their multi media offerings.

Was the Direct an “A+”? No sadly, imo.

But I DO think Nintendo did check many of those points above.

    • My 3rd grade nephew was only interested in two titles. He liked Mario Galaxy and Pokotopia (or whatever it is called). That is a start for Nintendo.

    • The movie preview looks great and the kids LOVED IT!

    • Fire Emblem looks great and looks like a more mature story for older gamers.

    • Yoshi looks great for younger audience.

    • Mario Tennis looks much improved. Finally, it looks like a “complete” Mario sports game.

    • Square Enix is on fire, and doing great work with FFVIIR, and DQ7R.

The problem imo, was 3rd parties. Resident Evil was a great “get” for older gamers. Though, we all assumed these titles were coming.

I think the lack of Xbox games is showing strongly. If Nintendo Direct had one or two more BIG 3rd party announcements, i think the general consensus would be much more favorable.

For example: If the Direct had any of the following two titles that are rumored, I think we would view this Direct very differently. If the Direct added any of these two: Minecraft Switch 2 edition, Sea of Thieves, Halo, Gears of War 1, Forza Horizon, Killer Instinct, Age of Empires, Fallout or Red Dead 2, Elden Ring (likely delayed), COD, Goldeneye Reloaded, Tekken, Boulders Gate 3, Mass Effect, Metal Gear, Assassins Creed or something else.

I would have liked to see one more family style game as well.

Truly, i feel it was just a couple of 3rd party titles short. This is something that can hopefully be remedied soon.

Edit: Metroid Prime 4. I really don’t know what to make of this game. The first trailer back in March looked amazing and a natural extension of Metroid Prime. The new trailer with the motorcycle, i am not sure what to make of it. Maybe it is a good thing, like BoTW. Maybe not. I really hope Nitnendo does a Metroid Direct and explains everything!
