Is anyone interested in doing a Black Mirror rewatch and discussion?
Edit: The rewatch announcement and schedule can be found here.
I think Black Mirror is an important show tackling a lot of tough, and often overlooked subjects with technology, and I think that there should be an audience for it on Tildes.
With that said, is there any interest in doing a rewatch and discussion on it? A discussion thread for each episode would be posted every few days, I’m thinking every 3, to give people enough time to watch the (sometimes quite long) episodes, as well as to not spam ~tv with too many threads.
I think this could be fun and start some good discussion, but there would have to be a good amount of people participating. If you’re interested, please leave a vote/comment with any feedback. Thanks!
Let's make it a thing. Semi-weekly threads were usually great on reddit. Ever seen /r/letstalkmusic's weekly threads and listening club? That tradition is now alive in ~music here.
Seems like a Tildes television club is in order - first topic, Black Mirror. Now, what format? One a day, one a week? Three a week?
The general format that I’m following is how /r/anime does rewatches: someone posts an interest thread, if there’s enough interest, they make an announcement with a full schedule, then they post discussion threads according to the schedule. The schedule is usually 1 episode per day, but since Black Mirror episodes are ~45 - 60 mins, I think 2 or 3 days per episode would be better to make sure people have enough time.
I’m not entirely sure about doing this in the style of the listening club posts. I think it works very well for music because it’s a one-off thing, but with a TV series, which is generally quite a few episodes, I think separate series of threads may be better, especially since there could be multiple rewatches and discussions about airing TV shows going on at once. Additionally, different episode lengths of different series means that the schedule may have to change.
I don't think one a day would be a good idea, because of both the length of the episodes and the depth of discussion that could arise from them. I think a minimum gap of two or three days would be needed to ensure that discussions aren't cut short.
I am in! Keep me posted. I have been wanting to rewatch it.
I would be totally down for this. Its such a great show and gets me thinking about the downsides to technology and what the future has in store for us. I grew up believing "technology will unite us and set us free" and now I am starting to think that, "technology might be the thing which drives us apart and oppresses us" instead. Black Mirror is basically like technophobe porn in that sense.
I'm up for doing this!
Rewatch schedule has been posted in https://tildes.net/~tv/4lz/black_mirror_rewach_announcement_and_schedule
I've never watched black mirror, but i've heard a lot about it. I would definitely be down.
Black Mirror has been my favorite show for a few years now. I've been needing to rewatch it (particularly some of the earlier episodes), so this gives me the perfect opportunity. Count me in.
I’ve also been needing to rewatch the earlier episodes. The first episode is pretty... strange, especially for a pilot, but the good thing about it is that if you can get through it you can get through the whole series.
Start it up! Black Mirror is always worth a rewatch, and since the episodes are mostly independent, it will allow people to jump in midway with a low barrier to entry.
I've only watched the first season of Black Mirror but I really enjoyed it. I would definitely support a discussion thread, I think it would be great to have a place to share thoughts and questions about each episode.
I haven't seen it at all, but it's been on my list for a long time to watch, so I'd be totally interested in this... I love discussing tv and I'm always late to the party for AV club and such.
