Westworld S2E4, "Riddle of the Sphinx"

No spoilers here (since I'm not sure there is a mechanic for hiding them yet), but that was a fun episode last night.

Between this and Legion, there are some legit-strange visuals on tv nowadays. And it's not like they're strange in a horror or shocking way. They're just weird. I'm into it.

I usually wait until a season is finished before I watch shows, or even until after they are done airing altogether so I can binge the whole thing at once, since I can’t stand waiting a week between each episode and a year (or more) between seasons. GoT, The Expanse, Atlanta, MrRobot and a few others are the exception where I will actually watch them week to week as they come out.

I watched the first season of Westworld week to week and even though it was really really good, it kinda plodded along at a pretty slow pace so I felt it was probably better to just wait and binge the second season once it was done. Am I correct in waiting for s2 to finish before checking it out, or is it week to week watching worthy so far?

Season 2 is a lot faster paced than Season 1, so if that's what is holding you back I'd say you could go week-by-week.

Going week to week has its advantages - mainly in the form of water cooler chit-chat, forum threads, theorizing, and excellence like alt-shift-x. You won't find that level of engagement with Netflix shows no matter how good they are. There's a value there that Netflix can't capture with the binge model because it lacks the synchronized watching aspects of a regular weekly air date. I'm kinda torn because I do prefer binging, but I also like all of the social aspects of going week to week.

Westworld is some of the best scifi that's ever been set to film, certainly the best on anywhere right now - and that's mostly owning to the phenomenal cast. Ed Harris has been the highlight but really, it's aces all around. S2 started off slow, but that's changing, and slow doesn't bother me. Last night's ep was lit as fuck, and was also the debut of Lisa Joy as a director. She's got serious talent, felt like a full movie rather than an episode and the cinematography was stunning. She also got more than a little Black Mirror into my Westworld.

        Good times.

This season hasn't been as engaging as Season 1 was for me. I did enjoy last night's ep though. It seemed to move the ball forward more.

Just finished the episode, was totally blown away. This was Lisa's directorial debut as well!
