TV Tuesdays Free Talk
Have you watched any TV shows recently you want to discuss? Any shows you want to recommend or are hyped about? Feel free to discuss anything here.
Please just try to provide fair warning of spoilers if you can.
So that last episode of Watchmen took this from a "Interesting, I'd like to see where this goes" to "Must watch" for me. Was anyone else damned impressed by how skillfully they executed that retcon?
That has to be the best, most thought-out retcon going.
I love that we're seeing scenes from
American Hero Story
as a sort of red herring. Definitely must-see TV. :)I just want to add that I have absolutely no idea about the Watchmen comics or movie and I'm still totally into this show. I don't really know what's happening half the time (like the first couple seasons of Game of Thrones), but I'm totally sucked in. I think I'm gonna finish out the show first, then go to the comics/movie, then back to the show to see what I missed. Any advice from the people who know what's up? Is that an ok plan, or totally stupid?
The movie changed the ending such that the show wouldn’t make sense following it. There is no giant squid attack in the movie.
I’d recommend just reading the book. It’s not that long, though it is very layered and dense.
I re-watched Peter Kay's Car Share. This sitcom is genuinely funny, and I recommend it to everyone.
I re-watched a bunch of Task Master episode. Task Master (UK) is one of my favourite things. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCT5C7yaO3RVuOgwP8JVAujQ
I've been watching MasterChef: The Professionals. It's not very good and one of the presenters has all the charm and charisma of a bruised toe. "CORR YUM YUM." But it's watchable.
Been watching Breaking Bad a lot, recently, currently in early season 5. It was originally just to prepare for El Camino but it's a great show to revisit, I had already forgotten a lot of amazing details. This really is one of the best tv shows ever, no other show (or movie, for that matter?) can build up suspense like that.
There's weird parts, though. Some of the characters' more "spontaneous" actions are infuriatingly self-destructive and stupid, like, just swallow your pride for one second, Walt! The constant coincidences tend to get a bit ridiculous at times. The teasers at the beginning of some episodes are more effective if you don't already know what's gonna happen, some of these are a bit annoying on a rewatch. Also, despite all the cancer, organized crime and drug abuse creating a kind of grim realism, this show is so over-the-top, it's absurd, lol! Honestly, it's crazy. Like McGyver meets Scarface.
I also plain don't get some of the more convoluted plans. What's that whole Lilly of the Valley plot? How on earth should that have been planned?
But all of those things are details. I'm totally hooked, it's an amazing show!
