Spoilers up ahead: But I found it interesting that they decided to turn Nate into an asshole. It’s quite the contrast from his character last season. I don’t think I like that. But I’m not sure if I don’t like it because it doesn’t work, or because I liked Nate in Season 1 and didn’t want him to change like this. Nick gives a great performance of this transformation however.

Excited to see how it all ends in Season 3.

I guess the news is everywhere, but Matt Amadio was beat on Jeopardy. There are a lot of interesting theories, but ultimately, he was off his game and had two strong competitors. Pretty great game, overall.

Has anybody been keeping up with Only Murders in the Building? The first half of the season was kind of slow, but its really picking up now. It seems goofy on the surface, but they've managed to pack in plenty of good twists and turns while keeping it light. This is definitely worth a watch.

Lower Decks: Season 2 grew it's beard with these past couple episodes. Not that it wasn't good before, but it's not going to the joke as frequently and seems to be having a bit of an arc going....

It's also nice to have a Star Trek series that's not obsessed with it's protagonist, and is just as much about the Cerritos crew and community as it is any one of its members.

Lately, Netflix has been killing it with their true crime series, and Bad Sports is no different. Every episode features a different story about crime and sports. The first episode, match fixing on the NCAA. In the second, a HUGE drug dealer uses all his money to fund his car racing career. In the third they cover the huge referee coercion by Juventus manager in 2006 that basically took down the entire Italian soccer. As usually, nothing fancy or super intelectual. Just good, entertaining journalism with no sensationalism.

    Squid Game

I resisted watching this show, despite the hype, because hype for Netflix shows often feels really artificial to me (e.g. remember the idiotic "Bird Box challenge"?), and I often find the most hyped shows on the platform to be the most disappointing. But I finally gave in after a bunch of friends, whose taste I trust, couldn't stop talking about it, and so I started watching it too. And I'm really glad I did.

The premise is a bit cliche, but everything about the show besides that is absolutely phenomenal (especially the acting). Holy fucking shitballs is it depressing though!!! I'm only slightly more than half-way through and I will honestly need to give it a few days break before watching the rest, because the last episode I watched broke me down into a blubbering mess. I don't think I've ever cried that much, while simultaneously feeling incredibly angry, from watching a show before. And even after the episode was over it took me a few hours to start feeling normal again. That I would get that emotionally invested just goes to show how good the story, characters, and acting are though.

So yeah, I highly recommended it... but only if you think you can handle how devastatingly depressing it is.

cc: @Adys, since we talked about the show (and Netflix hype) elsewhere.
