I finished The Wheel of Time final. I'd rate the show 6/10. It was ok but I wish it was better. The casting was good, the music too and most of the visuals, but I don't think they did the story justice. It's hard to believe this show cost a lot to make, it feels more like an average show.

My biggest gripe is that they don't develop anything. If I didn't read the books a while ago I don't think I would know WTF was going on. For a lot of the plot we don't get any context. The story doesn't feel that rooted into a history, it's not really lived in. A lot of characters don't seem to matter. Rand should be a lot more cool. I was expecting more from him in the finale.

The characters unlock their super powers but nothing really seems earned or deserved.

I just finished it myself and am extremely disappointed. I could accept a show based on a book series, basically playing around in the world, but all of the characters are wrong and don't even make any sense, or were designed to bludgeon you over the head with their reasons for doing things (more the latter). Even with these changes, I could still tolerate it if it was an at all okay show.

I'm not sure I'll be watching season 2 because it's going to be more of this. I also don't want to be that guy and write a huge essay about what I felt was wrong, but it mostly comes down to simply not telling the story where they try to, and a lot of their made up story being weak. If they did those two things I would've forgiven the character modifications.

I just finished the second season of The Morning Show. I'm not usually a drama show person, but I am enjoying it because they are not afraid to dive into sensitive cultural topics. Most of the drama is not "made up" meaning that the drama is not about trivial things. In addition, the acting is nuanced and gripping. Billy Crudup alone deserves to win an Emmy for his ability to communicate a whole unspoken internal narrative through his facial expressions alone. The second season did seem to end abruptly but I suspect that had to do with COVID.

I finished watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine this week. That last season ... really kind of sucked, IMO.

Way too much fan service. Those last two episodes were extremely meh. The whole season was a huge overcorrection to the series' own hypocrisy and I think while the first episode was way over the top in that regard (and massively suffered from it), it did get better. But it felt rushed, in a "oh, it's the last season, so we have to do X, Y and Z and quickly get to it and we gotta do it before the show ends quiiiick" kind of way.

It wasn't terrible, but overall, despite B99 starting extremely strong, it's leaving me with a memory of it being a fan-servicey, over-the-top show and that's mostly because of its last couple of seasons.

If you have to do mediocrity, do it mid-life. Always start strong and end strong. (Archer comes to mind, actually)

The last season I watched was the first season that it switched channels. I kind of just lost interest. I started watching it in 2017 (in early 2017 I binged a lot of shows) and it was like the only one I actually kept on watching. It felt like it should have ended sooner. It should have ended when it was cancelled, I think that would have been better for its legacy.

I remember one time I said “B99 should have stayed cancelled” on Twitter and the response I got was NO MORE COPAGANDA with a bunch of clapping emojis. That’s not even my problem with it, I don’t particularly care about that, it’s just that it really felt like the writing and humor went downhill right after it was picked up again.
