I'm sick of the ever repeated fantasies in film and TV about benevolent powers that be. It smacks of propaganda and is deeply unsatisfying when real life is so full of power hungry and easily corruptable narcissists.
Seeing characters in The Boys universe, at every level of the hierarchies, fighting for/against these systems and for what they want and believe in, evil bastards or not, is refreshingly realistic and cathartic to watch.
I'm looking firward to seaso 4 and rather hoping there will be more supplimental one-shot side shows like Gen V in the future too!

There are so many cultures here, I'd say every high street in London has at least two shops where you can buy authentic, staple foods and some fancy ingredients from at least one of these places. That's the sort of foods I grew up here eating too.
I have to disagree with everything else though as I do not eat animals or their byproducts and traditional British foods are very meat and dairy focussed and that is disgusting to me.

Nearly all my other unpopular food opinions are about British foods. For example, the two British food I actually like, are christmas pudding and marmite on heavily (plant) buttered toast/crumpets.

The writing, production values, and acting is all very well done. The whole film is just so bleak and yet darkly funny and fucked up, it's a very human depiction of how humans behave.
The art and it's use for the story is really nicely done and tied together too, and I'm going to he thinking about some of those paintings for a while. The stranger in the night painting and the mural in particular, others too but the names are kinda spoilers.
Also there are interesting aliens that have a language and writing system and physiology that is not human! I freaking love stuff with good aliens in it.

It was made almost entierly by one guy with his camera, up a mountain in Scotland. He wrote, directed, acted and filmed nearly everything except for a couple of shots his brother helped out with.
The film is about an injured hiker who wakes up in a mountain bothy with amnesia, a pretty serious injury and none of his belongings. After freaking out a bit as he can't call for help, a strange man shows up who claims to have rescued the hiker.
They settle in at the bothy for the night and the stranger tells the hiker stories in the candle light. Unsettling inconsistencies, interesting parallels, and local history and folklore intertwine and the stranger has a beautfiul voice for story telling. It's a surprisingly captivating and oddly calming piece of cinema. Recommended!

I'm incredibly lucky I grew up in London with easy access to a lot of very good quality, fun and surprisingly cheap, party and psychedelic drugs that I got to explore in my teens and early 20s and get that need out of my system.
In my late twenties I lived in NZ for a few years and it broke my heart to find out how prevelant and damaging meth was and how few other 'fun' drugs were available. I'd never even heard of datura, or met anyone who used meth, before I got to NZ.
By the time I left the country, at least 3/4 of the people I knew were functional meth users (who I'm pretty sure all had undiagnosed adhd. I was a chef and my partner was a sex worker, go figure) and we both knew a few people who had used datura in their teens and had issues with psychosis and permanently fucked up friends from it.
Unless these datura communities you've heard of are synthesizing it into more palatable compounds, I just can't conprehend how or why anyone would use it, let alone more than once.

I've heard the drug is unpleasant for normal people and every other recreational speed user I've ever known also had adhd.
Speed (amphetamine) is still my favourite drug, and it was the only way I felt normal and could interact with people and enjoy myself for years. In my late teens and early 20's, I was taking a few grams a week to function and a few more on the weekend to party.
It's also how I figured out I had adhd on top of autism, and this self medication experience it was (once I found a decent (expensive) doctor as the nhs are criminally bad at diagnosing adhd in girls and women) key in getting my adhd diagnosed and starting on a prescription. -

I shredded red cabbage with a vegetable peeler, added minced ginger and garlic, gochujang, light and dark soy sauce, vegan oyster sauce, vegan fish sauce, vegan mayo, a squirt of sriracha, lemon juice, gochugaru and a couple of pinches of chaat masala (it needed something and this seemed right and really worked) and stirred it all together with white rice.
Had this for three meals so far and I'm still enjoying it.

Baked buckwheat and tahini chocolate chip cookies this evening! Well, I made the batter and froze it in logs for next week and only baked one cookie off it as a tester. It was ridiculously good btw, all sweet and nutty and rich and chewy. It's going to be hard to let the logs chill for the rest of the week without testing another one.
I used this recipe but added vanilla paste and more salt: https://breadcakesandale.com/2021/12/02/buckwheat-tahini-chocolate-chip-cookies-vegan-gluten-free/
