I was 6, in 1st grade, and my...This is still a very impactful event for me, 23 years later. I lived across the Hudson. You could see it all happening from my grandparents home in West New York, NJ. I was 6, in 1st grade, and my father worked 3 blocks away from the Trade Center. Miraculously, he stayed home sick that day, so he was home when my mother picked me up from school. I had a friend in school whos father had evacuated the north tower.
Being 6 at the time, I only remember so much, but I remember the fear and anxiety in my parents. For years I was terrified of going into cities, even after we moved years later. My wife, who has lived her whole life in the south eastern US, had the same issue as well. I wonder how many other people had the same issue, being children at the time of the attack.
I watch a video like this one every year around the date, I guess as a way to remember those people that died that day, as well as to reconnect with the feelings I still remember having as a child.

DaddyBigBear LinkI started playing Void Crew over the weekend when it was on sale. I love the concept, it feels like a game I have been wanting to be made for years. You and your crew of up to 3 other players are...I started playing Void Crew over the weekend when it was on sale. I love the concept, it feels like a game I have been wanting to be made for years.
You and your crew of up to 3 other players are on a space ship traveling through space. The objective is to reach the last sector where there is a boss fight, with each sector before having a mission to accomplish before progressing, as well as loot to scavenge from enemy ships or derelicts.
The fun comes from the coordination of running a ship with friends. Pilot, engineer, gunner, and scavenger, the four classes have their own perk tree that very heavily defines what role a player can play. The chaos of ship combat while trying to keep the swarm of enemy fighters from killing your engineer on the hull of your ship patching hull breaches, and your scavenger is on the derelict space station looking for supplies is a great feeling, and becomes all the more fun as you get better at coordinating with your crew of friends.
The game is still in early access, but v1.0 is scheduled to come out this November. I'm excited to see the devs flush this one out a bit.

A modern day businessman goes on a business trip. During his stay at a hotel he takes a hike on a trail and manages to stumble into another world full of strange creatures and people. Very "Phantom Tollbooth" or Fantastica from "The Never Ending Story". Its a pretty funny book, but is overall fairly serious in tone, and has its emotional points as this man desperately tries to find his way home.

DaddyBigBear LinkMy favorite city ive ever been to was Greenville, South Carolina. I only spent a few days, but there is a river flowing right through the middle of the city with a park all the way along its...My favorite city ive ever been to was Greenville, South Carolina. I only spent a few days, but there is a river flowing right through the middle of the city with a park all the way along its banks, it was a great way to see the city. The older buildings are very well maintained and the newer buildings still keep to the established aesthetic of the city.
In addition, the city I've spent the most time in was Atlanta, and the feeling of ATL vs Greenville at night is noteworthy. It was always very clean, people were still out and about taking care of errands or enjoying the nightlife in downtown. And very walkable, at least from where I was staying at the time.
And I have to say, I hated St Louis. I only spent time in the outer, rougher areas there, but the amount of old burnt out buildings in some areas was shocking. Within several blocks I counted 12 different burnt down buildings that when I asked about I learned they had been sitting there burnt out for years without anything being done about them.

Pretty solid mystery drama starring Jake Gyllenhaal. 7/10 Remake of a 1990 movie starring Harrison Ford, which was based on a novel by Scott Turow....Just finished watching Presumed Innocent. Pretty solid mystery drama starring Jake Gyllenhaal. 7/10
Remake of a 1990 movie starring Harrison Ford, which was based on a novel by Scott Turow. Attorney in the Chicago DA office is accused of the murder of one of his colleagues with who he was having an affair. It was a breath of fresh air where the tension comes from the actual trial and investigation rather than mysterious people/groups threatening witnesses to hide some greater mystery. Well acted by Gyllenhaal, Bill Camp and Ruth Negga.

Its hard to overstate the influence Kurosawa has on stories in the west. From American westerns to Starwars, heist movies ,Disney animations , and of course other samurai movies. Even down to the basic idea of "assembling a team" to accomplish a task or mission was a very new thing when he directed 7 Samurai. I remember the surprise when I saw a "In Memory of Akira Kurosawa" panel in the title sequence of the Star Wars animated series "The Clone Wars" before an episode that was just a remake of 7 Samurai in a Star Wars setting.

DaddyBigBear LinkI just finished Ghost of Tsushima for the first time after a friend bought it for me. Ive been looking forward to its release on PC for some time and man I was not disappointed. Combat is smooth,...I just finished Ghost of Tsushima for the first time after a friend bought it for me. Ive been looking forward to its release on PC for some time and man I was not disappointed. Combat is smooth, story is very well done, the world is gorgeous. I've already started new game + and jumped heavily into the multiplayer side of the game. I don't do it often, but I'm going to try and 100% this one, it was such a pleasure to play.
Other than that though I picked up Shapes 2, great, deceptively deep factory building game where the goal is to receive shapes as an input, color, cut, stack, them into another shape and then output them. I'm just a sucker for factory games.

We did not trust their "third party" arbitrator or the fact that we would be unable to appeal...At that point our trust of the builder was so low we did not trust the decision to come in our favor. We had been waiting 1.5 years for this house to get built after selling our previous house. We would have ended up back in an apartment for a much longer time not been able to afford a house due to rising interest rates if that deal did not work out. AND we had a kid on the way. It was a stressful time lol

Basically we made enough of a stink about it, calling them all the time, that we worked out another deal where we got the other lot with a different floorplan with the price of...Oh no it's fine. Basically we made enough of a stink about it, calling them all the time, that we worked out another deal where we got the other lot with a different floorplan with the price of the floor plan when we signed the papers 1.5 years prior.
Basically we paid 5k more than we initially paid, vs them wanting us to pay 60k more.
Personally, I think the whole mistake was intentional on their part to try and milk us for more money since the market made a massive turn. Basically "Either give us more money or go back into the housing market"

DaddyBigBear LinkI started noticing this around 2020 myself when we were having a house built. The builder put the wrong, significantly smaller, floor plan on our purchased lot and were trying to get us to take...I started noticing this around 2020 myself when we were having a house built. The builder put the wrong, significantly smaller, floor plan on our purchased lot and were trying to get us to take that as is for a slight but not near acceptable discount, or buy a separate more expensive lot from them. We were getting ready to sue but got hit with one of those.
They really are everywhere now in this world where everything is a subscription or has some expectation of being a longer term business agreement, like "owning" an appliance or car that you will most likely have to bring in for service.

DaddyBigBear Link ParentCongrats on Aunt/Uncle status! AND happy anniversary. My 1st child's birthday is coming up in a few days, so my wife and I have been prepping for that. Other than that, I started college classes...Congrats on Aunt/Uncle status! AND happy anniversary.
My 1st child's birthday is coming up in a few days, so my wife and I have been prepping for that. Other than that, I started college classes this week for a BS in mechanical and aerospace engineering. Its been a busy week haha.
The stories of people seeing it on the news while in class always give me chills. I don't remember that part, I was too young. But my wife remembers.
A teacher came into the room to tell her teacher to turn on the news after the first tower was hit. Then she saw the 2nd tower get hit soon after. The teacher started crying and left the room, leaving a class full of 8 year old children alone for an hour with the TV on live 9/11 footage. She was afraid of traveling into cities into her late teens, and she lived in GA at the time.
