As someone with zero interest in YTMusic or any other streaming music service, 25 bucks a month sounds insane to me. None of the content I watch on YT is produced by YT (do they even actually produce original content in the way that platforms like Netflix or D+ do?), so why on earth should I pay them that kind of money just to host content that independent creators are producing for them for free?

I would maybe consider something in the realm of 2-3 bucks a month for an ad-free experience, but given the way they treat the content creators that have made their platform a success (de-monitization at a whim, ridiculous copyright strikes with no actual recourse even when the complaints are baseless), anything more than that is 100% out of the question for me.

I found that receipt you were looking for.

TL;DR: Lab-grown meat produced by current methods produces between four and twenty-five times as much CO2 as conventional meat. Researchers hope to bring that number down with future developments and it seems likely that they will be able to, but how much remains to be seen. Best case scenario is that lab-grown meat becomes significantly more carbon efficient than conventional meat, worst case scenario is that they can't find a way to scale production efficiently enough.

I am a vegetarian myself, and while I would try lab grown meat, I think it's a common misconception that vegetarians or vegans are champing at the bit for ethical "real" meat.

This is purely anecdotal on my part, so take it with as large a grain of salt as you consider necessary; almost all of the vegetarians I know (and I know quite a few), are thrilled at the prospect of lab-grown meat. Most people I know who have chosen to go vegetarian have done so not because of a culinary dislike of meat, but because of ethical concerns surrounding the killing of animals or the conditions of factory farms. I myself am a meat eater, but should the day come where lab-grown meat was equivalent in quality, price, and environmental impact to conventional meat then I would be happy to make the switch. I think it's worth considering how many current meat eaters might also be willing to make that switch, given that the above conditions were met.

Another classic Steve Novella takedown. The day that I take one of these UFO 'whistleblowers' seriously is the day that one of them brings some hard evidence to the table, and not a minute before.

One caveat to this, which I recently learned the hard way, is that connecting an m.2 drive on certain mobos will disable some or all of the SATA ports. My current mobo has two m.2 slots and four SATA ports, but each m.2 slot used disables two of the SATA ports (meaning you can either have four SATA drives connected, or one m.2 and two SATAs, or two m.2).

Desktop diehard checking in - R7 5800x3D, 6800XT, 32GB, 27" 1440p/144hz (with two additional 24" 1080p monitors). However, my living room gaming setup has begun to compete for my attention in recent weeks ever since I bought a 75" 4K TV. It's run off the older gaming rig which my current one replaced (i5-6600k, RX 480 8GB, 16GB), but man is indie/retro gaming in 75" 4K ever sweet, and plus that RX 480 is a workhorse that can still handle a lot of modern games reasonably well if you're not too picky on your settings.

I used to be more into tabletop as well, but once you're pushing 40 it becomes harder and harder to get a reliable group of people together on a regular basis. I used to be big on CCGs too until I realized that most of them are P2W (and also that your average FNM attendee has roughly the same level of social skills and personal hygiene as a drunk two year old).

One of my close friends is a somewhat popular speedrunner of NES games who holds a number of world records. I'd never been much into the concept personally, but after watching his stream a bit and hearing him talk about some of his methods and whatnot, I definitely gained a much deeper appreciation for what these people do than I would previously have thought possible.

For anyone interested in getting a glimpse of the speedrunning world, I'd suggest looking up Summoning Salt on YouTube. He has a ton of videos going over the world record progression history of various games, and watching one or two of them will be an educational experience. The history of Mario Kart 64 world records is probably my personal favourite, but they're all pretty good.

I will check out The Wrong Station immediately. Thanks for the recommendation, I love a good horror anthology. In that same vein, I've been enjoying Gray Matter a lot even though the releases are kind of infrequent and the limited run series from last Christmas called 12 Ghosts was also really good.

I generally enjoy replaying games that I've particularly liked, but some of the best games are the ones you can really only play once.

In fact, I suppose one could say that at a certain point in my life it kind of was my real name since it's what basically everyone I knew called me.

I know I'm a little behind the times here, but I've just recently been playing Marvel's Spider-Man and it's been a breath of fresh air for me in the increasingly stagnant 3rd person action genre. Traversal is actually fun as opposed to just feeling like padding, and the combat is so different from the standard dodge-and-roll, hack-and-slash format which has dominated the genre for the last several years.
