I agree with you about TotK. In addition to what you’ve already said though, for me, I just really hate spatial/physics puzzles. I hate walking into a shrine and seeing a pile of stuff on the ground and I’m somehow supposed to make something out of it to solve puzzles. It frustrates me and makes me feel incredibly stupid.

I’ve gotten into a rut with games recently too, and I’ve found going back to the games that I loved as a kid really helps. The problem (one of) with modern gaming is they focus all their attention on realistic looking graphics and hardly any of their attention on gameplay and unique, creative ideas. Modern video gaming has become a lot like the Hollywood industry now, in all the worst ways.

I grew up with the NES as a kid and the older I get the more I find myself going back to that type of gameplay. I don’t have patience for 120 hour, open world adventures anymore, I don’t have patience for 25 minutes of cutscenes, and I don’t have any desire to play online. I want to essentially turn a game on and be actually playing it almost immediately.

As I get older I keep flirting more and more with becoming strictly a "retro gamer". I've been playing games since the NES was first released and my personal golden age of gaming was 6th gen (GCN, PS2,) and prior, especially 8 and 16 bit. I still have the majority of my collection for my old consoles and handhelds but in the last year I've gotten more and more into emulation once I got my hands on a cartridge dumper. It's just a lot more convenient to me rather than constantly hooking up systems to my tv and digging out games. I've really fallen in love with retro handheld emulators recently too, like the Miyoo Mini.

I was having similar issues in terms of trying to figure out how to replace the “News” that I got from Reddit, things like retro handhelds or tech news, etc. I ended up using a two pronged approach: I use an RSS reader (Net News Wire) and Artifact, which is an AI powered news app that learns what you’re interested in as you use it, and so far it’s worked out great.

I don’t miss Reddit at all anymore. Now that tons of people have deleted their past content (me included) there’s just a lot less to see on Reddit so I don’t even feel like I’m missing anything.

Lemmy and the Fediverse still kinda confuse me. I thought I had a decent understanding until last night when I learned that Communities (?) can defederate themselves and cut off contact with other communities. Learning about that just made me more confused because now you have to join the right community to make sure you can see other communities, it makes my head hurt lol. I’ve been lurking on Tildes for about a week and a half and have loved it. This is my first post here but honestly I like it a lot more than Lemmy. Tildes is just easier and makes a lot more sense to me, everyone seems nicer here too.
