My organization is relatively large and has a few preserves spread around the region. There’s some really cool land trusts too! And the people working for them are generally really passionate for ecology and wildlife, so if you ever encounter them they might give you the contagious obsession of looking at plants more than generalizing it as “green”.
But yes, I’m still in the rat race paying for rent and all, but im at least doing something fulfilling. I have two grumpy old men as my coworkers that are slowly warming up to me.

I feel blessed to be able to be outside all day, I use a lot of power tools and noisy stuff, but they bought me Bluetooth ear protection so I’ve been enjoying a lot of audiobooks. I am getting experience using all kinds of equipment (or toys some might say), and I get to stare at bugs and plants and birds….
The cons are a 50 minute commute and I have to get up at 5 am (and again, I make less than $50k), but it’s worth it to me to be able to pull into the preserve and be able to call it my office. -

Yeah... My stance anymore is the only solution is civilization/societal collapse that forces us to resort to pre-industrial revolution ways of existing. The industrial revolution has been the catalyst for so many of these environmental issues that it's hard not to see it as nefarious anymore. All in the name of advancing... science? Technology? What are we exactly working towards with our space-ships and faster cars? To break records and feed our ego & human hubris. The only thing left anymore to do is to basically be an observer of the mass extinction to come because we can't even decide if we should be vegans or vegetarians without a large debate.
The longer I pay attention to politics, the more I realize that it's just people arguing until we're all drowning and not actually fixing the problem lol. You won't get people to do choice-fully do all of these eco-friendly things because it's not fun or comfortable or whatever people need to feel fulfilled. We've lost touch with reality, aka Gaeia or Mother Nature, and have filled it with Technocracy and worshipping the computer. -

I did have too argue with my dealer about the battery needing replaced, bc they sold it to me under that assumption (it being already replaced). However, after buying an OBD2 reader, I’m confident in weeding that issue out now ($20 off Amazon). It’s a car that’s cheap to maintain other than the hybrid battery, but even then I think it’s worth it, you can get them installed for $1k if you don’t want to do it yourself. I would be comfortable spending less on a Prius for like 150k miles because frankly, they’re tanks. Also, buy old cars, they work great still.

And on top of that, that’s only new vehicles, which then you have a lot of people still buying used and using their old gas vehicles. It’s… just not solving the systemic issue of car centric design is bad for so many reasons.

Does no one see that this is an easy way for Elon Musk, same guy that’s dismantling the government, to spy on people that might be dissenting against him? So many nightmare scenarios coming from this, and as someone who said this already, I won’t touch this with a 10 foot pole.

According to Forest Unlimited, which I am not sure how accurate this is, 3% of that 33 million is managed by state and local agencies... so 700k acres may be ALOT for what California is responsible for managing. Also, all of this reminds me of how much these politicians are focused on mitigating the effects of climate change rather than actually doing anything about the problem, but I'll save myself from getting bent of shape about that today.

First being more dedicated to working on my personal YouTube channel, not sure what the actual quantitative goal is yet, but still. I also want to just be a better person and try to remain calm as we continue to face existential dread, I feel like that’s one of the very real solutions right now. Other than that, eating healthy after the cookies and wine season is coming to an end!!

Invasive species need human management, deer need to be hunted by humans, native plants need to be actively protected and planted and grown. Obviously it’s way more work than what a beaver might do (though they are productive little guys). But I can see the argument that we are, or at least could be, a keystone species for any environment.

(A little disappointed in Apple, but also I am happy they're deleting unnecessary data). This seems like a lot to me especially when most of that time is in firefox, which I use as my social media platform, journalistic reading.... etc. It's all in one in my Iphone. But man is it hard to set boundaries with these things! Especially someone with ADHD, I feel like I always find a way around whatever screen limitation I put in place for myself when I'm even a little motivated. I think this is because it's a lot easier for me to doom-scroll rather than do a chore or go for a walk or whatever other enhancing thing.
A quote from south park comes to mind, although they are talking about weed, it is very relevant to replace it with social media and/or whatever distraction is on your phone:" Well, Stan, the truth is
marijuana[social media] probably isn't gonna make you kill people, and it most likely isn't gonna fund terrorism, but, well son, pot makes you feel fine with being bored, and it's when you're bored that you should be learning some new skill or discovering some new science or being creative. If yousmoke pot[doom scroll] you may grow up to find out that you aren't good at anything.”
Hah! I actually would be the little bear in this context. My boss is actually a wildfirefighter too, and has aloooot of posters for smokey the bear lol.
