Another attempt at weight loss. Such a clichéd resolution but I am nevertheless committed and this time I know what to do different from last time in October-November where I only maintained my weight. Completely fell back into old habits of way too much chips and candy in December because of a holiday and couldn't leave it behind when I got home. I gained 3 kg in one month which.. yikes. So I have twice as long to go. Hopefully about ½ kg a week. I will still use the same method of counting calories but I think I overestimated how much I burn in a day as my goal back then was 1500 per day. So I will cut portions even more than I did back then, and I also researched how much the same amount of calories different foods makes you gain, so hopefully this time it works better.

Not because the New Year was on my mind, i have many things I’d like to work on. First being more dedicated to working on my personal YouTube channel, not sure what the actual quantitative goal is yet, but still. I also want to just be a better person and try to remain calm as we continue to face existential dread, I feel like that’s one of the very real solutions right now. Other than that, eating healthy after the cookies and wine season is coming to an end!!

I’m trying a couple of things - I’ve been pretty successful with resolutions in the past that are framed around removing one thing from my life for a year.

This year I want to try to be better at some things, while respecting that it’s going to be a difficult one. I want to get better at regular physical activity, at journaling, and at presenting information to people. I’ve thought about ways to make these goals SMART goals, but I want to be cautious here. I have a habit of setting really high expectations for myself, then being disappointed when I don’t have the stamina to follow through all the way.

So, my primary resolution is to be kinder to myself, and set some healthier expectations. A secondary goal may be to avoid saying “sorry” without some serious thought beforehand.

I plan on making progress on physical activity and journaling, but I recognize that I don’t know what a reasonable goal is yet. That feels like solid progress!

If anyone has a suggestion on a goal for physical activity, I’m open to considering them!

    Happy New Year!

Last night was the first Hogmanay in a long, long time that I didn't make the bells. Me, my partner and daughter have all managed to catch this horrible flu thing that's doing the rounds so I was asleep by half eight last night and now I've woken up feeling a lot better but with no voice whatsoever so I'm struggling to catch a break.

    Kids are horrendous germ factories.

Question, are we celebrating the revolution of the sun today (at midnight specifically). Or is it on your birthday? Or both?

One of my in-laws was born on Jan 1. The running family joke is that the Mummer parade (live stream) is in honor of their birthday.
