As per AP News, Judge Dugan has been released. The post was put back up; I don't think they're back pedaling, just trying to make sure they've got the show of force right.

Fun fact, Tracert isn't actually real, or at least it isn't what people think it is. In this case, at least for showing a local double NAT, it can reasonably be trusted, but idk about more than that.

I personally also keep Signal, but then that's more because SMS is inherently not a secure messaging system anymore. So I keep it so I can send/receive messages with a few friends (mostly complaining about work), something sensitive in nature with my partner (such as a shared PW for ordering pizza, which we delete after) or as my default for a couple (literally two) friends. The adoption is unfortunately really hard to drive, regardless of how easy it felt to me to get started.

I use RES to tag people on there, and the number of bots and 3-6 year old posts with timestamps still visible, horrendously degraded jpegs, and ragebait trimmed of context was by the end of a week nearly 40% of /r/all. I still want to get off reddit, but there really isn't a better source for memes for me, so I've gone back to insta-blocking every repost/bot, and subbing to small communities only.

Pedantically, there actually was a very silly deck LSV played in Vintage where the mana doubled by Doubling Cube isn't in fact restricted. Loop a lotus or two, double, and go off for more traditional lines with higher than average mana. It was absolutely a gimmick, but he did pull off some wacky wins!

Extra salty indeed - I had done a previous batch that developed some harmless yeast on top at 4% that gave it some off notes even after scooping the top bits off, so this round I wanted to try a higher salinty to keep a slight twang but not a full ferment.

Nothing added after bottling (except a negligible salt to taste of like 1-1.5 tbsp for 1.25lbs of peppers+garlic pre-ferment), but they're always refrigerated and eaten in ~1-2 months.

This week was rather interesting - did some 2 week lactofermented hot sauce of shishito peppers, garlic, and a few habaneros, blended with fresh garlic and some left over oil from when I made garlic confit (can you tell I like garlic?). Turned out really good, very garlic forward and not too spicy. (No recipe - it was a 6% by weight brine and ziploc bag weight to keep peppers submerged, drain and then additional garlic, oil, and salt to taste)

Also did some Levain copycat cookies off the serious eats recipe (https://www.seriouseats.com/super-thick-chocolate-chip-cookie-recipe) for a friendly cookie off, which won. Second place went to a modified Gideon's recipe that I can't share the exact details of, but browned and smoked butter made them damn good.

Lastly, did some Tandoori chicken that I've been trying to dial in the flavors of. Swapping to buttermilk to marinade was part 1, and part 2 was using Kissan's masala from Canada instead of the US version. Couldn't tell you why but that made the difference.

That leaves me with a full bottle of buttermilk left over though, if anyone has any suggestions on what to do with it.

I think if you're privacy conscious, you're going to be giving up a lot to get the tooling and automation that smart home tech offers. Most out of the box solutions require internet access (and I strongly agree with /u/shrike and you, it must be considered how everything will work without internet) and offer an app - which guarantees leaked data to the company servers.

My personal set up has no home automation barring a Nest thermostat to replace one from 2 decades ago, and that still tries to "phone home" regularly - which is only visible to me thanks to running a pihole. The moment I step outside of my home and interact with the Nest app, I'm back to square zero on how much of my data (or metadata) is going out and where. For me, personally, a pihole is the place I'd start any amount of automation efforts due to my personal emphasis being more on the privacy than on automation.
