I'm not going to comment the funding part because I have no knowledge of it. I all for helping people that really flee from war or people that are oppressed by their regime. I can also sympathize with people wanting a better life, we don't get to choose where we are born but I don't agree with taking a boat and throwing your passport away.

However I think your point about EU is unfair, what should, we do take everybody that comes? What do we do with our current citizens? We can't move Africa and parts of Asia to the EU. We should get people that want to integrate and not turn our society into what they had back home because that's why they came in the first place.

I think a good middle-ground would be by making it harder for the undocumented migrants to be accepted and get any status. This way we would discourage people getting in a boat or trying to illegally enter EU because they would know there is an almost 99% chance they will be declined and sent back.

At the same time we should be relaxing the normal migration policies for people that want to come work and integrate into the adopting society.

Maybe this would please the left and the right.

Apple has a veil over their eyes so they cannot see clearly. They want to act like an authoritarian regime whilst hiding behind either privacy or security concerns for their users(aka their profits).

In reality 90%(if not more) of their users are tech illiterate, same with Android. So they could have opened the gates years ago and even made it a standout feature, how inclusive and open they are, just like the security they claim.

People would still use the standard baked in features because they either don't know, don't care or don't have time to learn about it. The few percentage of people that would use the new stores and features, you can throw them in a rounding error. Heck even people from Android might switch because of the open attitude. There would be no EU investigation, no antitrust case and they would get a ton of positive coverage.

But that's what happens when you don't really know your audience and you want to rule with an iron fist.

Well a part of this particular group didn't want to integrate with society even in Romania.
Before Romania joined the EU, all the countries were pointing fingers and saying you should take better care of them, it's unacceptable, you need to do this and that. Some changes were made, some not but the result is more or less the same.
Now, that Romania is in the EU, "it's an EU problem" and it seems no country managed to solved it, even the ones that were pointing fingers. I know some social workers and teachers in schools for people with learning disabilities/harder to integrate and all of them are clueless about what to do.
It's hundreds of years of being slaves and then "being released" but kept away from normal society and they lived in their own closed off society. There was no real emancipation and even today many live in separate societies, in their own villages with their own rules. A lot have integrated and live just normal boring lives, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference from a regular Joe.
It's a super complex situation, which honestly I don't know how can be solved. If you approach it via normal ways, they will just take advantage of you, your money and not change anything in their mentality. You will be just a money bag. Maybe to force them to let their children go to school and through education they will change their way when they grow up? Dunno.

The last part hit me just as hard as seeing the website hit me. As someone with a Bachelor of arts and who's been doing videos for the last 15 years, this is kinda game over.

This year I was planning on upgrading most of my camera equipment but I might have to rethink my strategy since I might just throw the money out of the window. I mostly do corporate stuff and I can guarantee if the marketing departments get access to video AI like we see in the site, yeah the phone is never going to ring again.
It's shit because I love what I do and I saw myself doing that "forever" but when this hits mainstream I think 90% of the gigs will be gone and for the rest of the 10% it's going to be a race to the bottom.
Well I guess it might be time to learn something new, oh wait AI will be 29,99$ per month so yeah.

The future should be more and more on public transport. Where I live, if you don't get a monthly pass because you don't ride the subway every day, it's incredibly expensive. Close to 4 euros per ride, one-way. So if I want to go with my wife in the city center and back, I would have to pay close to 16 euros. It would be a somewhat short ride, around 5 stops.
I'm all for saving the environment but at that price, I will take the car.

I have stopped responding to that person because I felt like there was no room for having an open discussion. The moment I said something that didn't fit to his world view, I became some sort of archnemesis and then I was named names with which I don't identify. Names which I also can't stand but all of a sudden, I am thrown in the same pot. So much for compassion and understanding. From that brief exchange, I felt like I never accused him of anything, yet I am the "extremist".

And when I read a discussion like this one, I can't help it bud identify her with @OrangeCorvus and the guy who accused her of racism with you.

Thanks so much for that, it's exactly how I felt. I just gave up trying to engage with him because it felt like it was going nowhere and no matter what I would have said, what arguments I would have brought, it would be turned around and I would be accused of something. I reached an age where I don't have the time and patience for things like that.

I am not ashamed of anything, this is how I feel about it and I will not apologize for it. I see myself as a center-leftist but I am against uncontrolled immigration. Full stop. You are free to think whatever you want about me.

This is a good point that nobody raised, I guess most people commenting are from the US. In the EU, the right wing parties are gaining ground pretty much in all countries. In some countries, the polls show them in second or third place.
I think it's going to get worse since in the next 2 years we will have elections in a lot of countries. Some of the rethorics of these politicians is mind blowing and what the propose. Also most of the parties have ties in one way or the other with Russia, which gets you thinking.

At the same time, I can kind of understand why people vote for them. Until a few years ago, no politician had the courage to open their mouth when it came to immigration, it would have been a political suicide so instead they pushed it further under the rug. Now, in many countries we end up with "refugees" which are not really refugees but economic migrants and the worst is they have an innate disgust for the local laws and traditions.

We need to hit the brakes on that and the right wingers will thin out. I am pro-immigration but done through the proper channels. I am pro refugees but the ones that really flee from real danger. I am against the "I came here by boat, now give me money. I lost my passport at sea but I still have my phone" type of refugee.

I also use Vivaldi and have been every since it was in beta. It's packed with features that I actually use and I can customize it a lot. Sure, I would like to use Firefox more but it seems they don't cater to power users or users that one to have a flexible browser. Seems like it's been the same since forever.
I want to support open web and to minimize my reliance on Google's Chromium but if I am honest, at the end of the day I want something that works for me.

The problem with squabbles is that we don't know where it will go if it gets big. I like the site but I think it might be a Reddit 2.0 waiting to happen. It's closed source and the dev can take the first sell offer he will get, maybe not, maybe he is the savior of the forum like software. We don't know and that's why I'm reluctant to invest a lot of time in it.
