SpineEyE That logic is flawed, as Apple's marketing for privacy, so data leaks hit them as hard as Google. One could also argue it's easier to find alternatives for Apple products than for Google's.Google, on the other hand, is intentionally grabbing as much data as they can, but they do have a big motivation to protect that data, as targetting ads with that data is their main profit generator.
If Apple's data on you leaks, it's a bad PR story. If Google's data leaks, they've lost their business model because nobody has to go through Google anymore.

As I don’t know what argument of mine should be in bad faith I enumerate them:
- the user doesn’t care if it’s atom, rss or some other XML based syntax, even though you as a developer do, out of which perspective you are arguing. So you don’t reply to any of my arguments here.
- increasing use of mobile devices, especially running iOS, android and other flavors and systems.
- polling many different servers often, doesn’t make sense on such devices as it uses a lot of electricity.
Now to your arguments:
Browsers not supporting Websockets HTTPS/2 are definitely a decreasing minority. Even without that, what is the argument? The web server likely falls back to https 1.1 +TLS. If an event driven notification system fails once, the user can poll the web site, app, etc. if it fails often, people wouldn’t use it.
Beside browser notifications (which do not work on phones for longer intervals) I mentioned E-Mail, Reddit notifications (which can be forwarded to email), chat apps and other mobile apps which don’t have to run on web engines and which use a phone’s notification system.
I don’t see how users miss out on push notifications if they are not running an app. That sounds like a failure of the notification system. It should run as a service in the background like on all iPhones and all androids with google services and probably most other modern phone OS. How else would the average user (!) use messaging apps?
I don’t tell you to implement an event driven push system. Go ahead and offer RSS on your blog. You are right, it won’t go away soon. If you want to increase your audience, offer email notifications and post your blog posts on relevant subreddits, tildes groups, telegram groups, or other platforms where users get notified.
PS: I think both markdown and hyperlinks are very good technologies yet I didn’t use them as much as I would like in this and my previous posts since I’m writing from a phone and not a PC and it’s very cumbersome to use it on this device but I don’t have any other device these days neither more time. It took me over an hour to write this because of annoying copy paste functionality, autocorrect, app switching, other input problems (and to formulate my arguments in a foreign language as neutral as possible so this random internet comment which won’t even get one vote won’t be seen as an attack). Happy new year.

Also they don’t use their desktop PC but rather a mobile device to regularly read internet content. And polling numerous web servers on mobile devices in small intervals just doesn’t make sense.

Of course you will prefer to use the desktop app on your phone, which means you can’t use calls (yet) and it’ll probably be a bit of a hassle sending messages to numbers that you haven’t written to before, as the desktop app won’t have access to your contacts. I think you would have to write the first message via command line or ask the contact to message you first.
Disclaimer: signal-cli is not developed by open whisper systems and I don’t know how trustworthy it is.

For up to date wine I need a custom repository and for the latest wine release I needed to install an additional binary of some obscure library that wasn't in either repository (licensing...).
Don't get me started on snap...Stuff like this is why I hate Ubuntu, but unfortunately the current admins where I work only offer Ubuntu when you ask for Linux.

I kind of understand that Arch Linux is not for you since you have to install the right packages for your system and also set up a few more config files than say in Manjaro. But when you install an LTS kernel, I think Manjaro's packages are as stable and more up to date and more extensive than those of other distros.

And i think many of them can’t deal with the legal problems of providing a VPN that can be used to access all kinds of illegal content. Therefore they need to stay anonymous to be able to provide their service.

I think his highest priority is to offer something that is more secure/private than the current market leaders.
And with that goal comes the necessity to move quickly. Tell me an alternative app that users can install on their iPhone and Android phones with a similar amount or growth rate of features as Signal.
He might think a little too high of himself, I don't know him personally, but ultimately he offers us a better, more private/secure, alternative than the current market leaders. Sure it's not the pinnacle and yeah you need to trust him (and his team) not to destroy the service. And you don't really have to trust him as you can reproducibly compile the app or in theory even fork the project and use your own servers.
But the important point here is that it is progress to the status quo and therefore I don't understand why you should not recommend it to the mainstream, i.e. people currently using Whatsapp, Telegram, Viber, etc.
