However, it would help prevent that mentality from growing in the first place, in my opinion. There's a hell of a lot to be said for the confidence that comes from getting some experience in that area.

Example: I currently use some RES rules to hide the entire silver/gold/platinum system. Obviously, that level of customization is probably out of the question, but I would absolutely kill to be able to hide that bullshit on my phone.

Sync is the closest-to-perfect Reddit app, in my opinion. Something that gave me that degree of configuration and improved on it would basically win me automatically.

I'm not sure what you could really do with the desktop site that RES doesn't allow you to do better already. If you're not making a native desktop app, that seems like a really fruitless endeavor to me, but then I don't know what your vision ultimately looks like.

There's an unwritten rule that you don't write tickets to the wives and children of other officers.

That's... kind of a huge part of the problem, right there. Doing things of this nature creates another, higher "class" that gets special treatment when the rules really should apply to everyone. I get that everyone does it (people who work in a movie theater will get friends in for free etc), but this isn't really a thing that should happen in police departments. I don't think it's a problem for truly minor things (sex in a parking lot, peeing in an alley, a low-end speeding ticket), but it does seem to me like it would create a precedent that could open the door to forgiving worse offenses that maybe shouldn't have been forgiven.

To put it another way, those wives and children are being put 'above the law.' The truly unfortunate thing is that someone like myself, who would absolutely not take relationship to an officer into account, would get treated like dog-shit by the rest of the force for breaking that unwritten rule (I'm making some assumptions on limited knowledge, but everything else you've been saying seems to reinforce that this would hold true) and possibly get fired, looked over for promotions or punished in some other way for doing things correctly.

I think I'm rambling, so I'm just gonna stop there, but hopefully I've made my point.

I'm not necessarily in disagreement with you, but do you know this is true, or is it just something you heard somewhere on the internet?

Hell, there's a police department out there that screens prospective officers with an IQ test and rejects them if they score too high.

It's super worth it if you're actually into music. The interview process is a bit of a pain, but it's a one-time pain and then you're golden.

I claimed the game, but I honestly can't see any incentive to actually download the 80 GB and install it. Is there anything here for someone who doesn't care much for shooters as a rule?

I definitely think you can - and frequently are required to - separate the art from the artist. Sometimes a shitty person still makes a good product.

Giving them money for that product is a different matter; I have a very hard time giving any sort of financial support to people whose views I strongly disagree with. My own personal ethics are such that I feel perfectly okay with pirating a piece of software in that case.

All that being said, if it is something that I truly, strongly disagree with, it's very difficult for me to look at the thing, or especially hear music from someone with a view I find deplorable. All too frequently, it just reminds me of their view and gets me angry again.

The control is... really, really weird, at least for me.

I've only had a few; unlike the person you replied to, I felt like I had perfect control. Things I wanted to happen, happened; if I wanted to walk into the next room and have that room be a nice bedroom with a cute girl waiting there, that's exactly what I got.

What I couldn't seem to control was my... thoughts, sort of? The previous example is something I actually did (because who wouldn't?)... except I didn't choose to walk into the next room. Instead, I "chose" to float up through the ceiling into a room above me... but it was the most natural thing in the world to me. In the dream, at that moment, 'floating up and through the floor' seemed more natural than 'walking through a door into another room.'

Also, even when I thought I had perfect control, sometimes the environment would defy me and do something else anyway. It was a bit like a smart-ass genie; I usually got what I had intended to get, along with side effects that were not intended.

If your area has bad data you can always help contribute to improving it if able.

So what does it have? My wife and I both tried it early on, and neither of us were particularly into it. What can I actually get from it that other games aren't doing better? Misunderstanding.
