I guess you could call it "fantasy or another kind of speculative fiction".
I only read the first one, "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon. There is a bit too much romance for my taste, but on the other side, the female protagonist is a very strong character. She – unsuprisingly – bonds with a Scot, but they do have a hard time finding each other because of the circumstances, and they do fight a fight together. The plot takes place before the defeat of the Scots by the Empire.
It's the best roundup I can give; maybe if someone else read the book you could add your two cents.

On the other hand, following your analogy, it's much easier keeping someone out of the building than keeping him out of the section. That said: Since it's easy to revoke someone the rights of posting in/reading a specific group, does the extreme of banning the user from Tildes need to be taken?

At some point it really makes no difference what distribution you are using; they all have their peculiarities that you can seemlessly transition between, once you know them.
NixOS with it's different paradigm is another story, though. I really enjoy having essentially one config, but then again I don't quite find the time to really learn writing nix. Every custom package I built until now has sort of been hacked together until it "works for me"™. Also, I found the nix store chugging really hard on my SSD, which is why my main portable is running good old Debian again.

As a scholar, I find it very interesting, but they are targeted at a broad audience. This here is the proper podcast xml feed.
The second and third English podcast I can recommend (all others I listen to being German) are those of the Long Now Foundation, to be found here. They are both similar in style, one of them featuring seminars, the other one lectures, on different topics of long-term thinking. Both podcasts are published monthly.
Edit: Fixed some typos.

When groups start to become too full (i.e., topics are opened so numerously they "flood each other away"), subgroups would be needed.
I think the mechanics of newsgroup creation could be altered to suite Tildes: Have a group ~tildes.groups(.proposals), where proposals can be made and discussed. I am not sure, though, how to decide what proposed group should be created.
Also, once subgroups are in place (with whatever creation mechanics), I'd like to have the option to see topics of all subgroups when browsing a group. E.g., on visiting ~music.metal I would like being able to tick a checkbox labelled "show topics in subgroups". Another way of implementing this could be being able to browse multiple groups at once (e.g. by visiting tildes.net/~music.metal+~music.metal.instrumental).
That spoken language sounds interesting! My first instinct was that a one-syllable-limit might be crippling to the scope of the vocabulary, but then again I remembered German words that are a tad longer than your examples of "gah, tar" etc., are still one syllable, but sound very similar: "Schweiß" [ʃvaɪ̯s] (sweat) and "Schweiz" [ʃvaɪ̯t͡s] (Switzerland) or "schrumpf" [ˈʃʁʊmp͡f] (shrink) and "Strumpf" [ʃtʁʊmp͡f] (sock).
