Catt Link ParentAs someone who loved the series, but couldn't get the same love of it from anyone I recommended it to, I'm going to answer - yes and no. I would say the 10 volumes are quite similar in feel, so if...So yeah, I don't really get the praise this comic has received over the years. Am I missing something? Am I not the target audience? Have I just not reached the good parts yet?

I would say the 10 volumes are quite similar in feel, so if you've read three and aren't into it, it might just not be for you. The Dolls House is actually one of my favorites, second to basically the final arc. I would also say three books in, you actually haven't really gotten to what I consider the point of the stories yet.
If your interested in giving it another shot, I recommend the latest Sandman Overture. It's short and beautiful and touches on similar themes. I also loved Dream Hunters which isn't as fluid as the original series.

I remember basically learning about a start and end date here and...As a Chinese-Canadian, this was really interesting to read. There's always been so little information on this part of history. I remember basically learning about a start and end date here and there from school, and honestly a very white perspective, such as on how the Canadian government brought over Chinese workers compared to why and how they came.
Anyways, good read thanks for sharing.

I generally lurk on Reddit for content that is easy and quick to consume, such as cute kitty pics and funny comics. Perhaps...The main difference to me is the community and quality of content. I generally lurk on Reddit for content that is easy and quick to consume, such as cute kitty pics and funny comics. Perhaps because I've been on Tildes near the beginning, I find the community here much easier to engage with, so content and leading discussions are generally more in-depth and thoughtful. Not that you can't find that level on Reddit, but more that it's not necessarily what I would look for there. Also, Tildes is Canadian, and there's a subtle difference from Reddit, though it seems most members are American on both.
Edit to add:. I can't believe I forgot to include that Tildes is ad-free!

Catt Link ParentCome from away was the last one I saw and I loved it too! It was one of the few I went in not really knowing anything about it, and it honestly just blew me away. I was so sad I wasn't able to buy...Come from away was the last one I saw and I loved it too! It was one of the few I went in not really knowing anything about it, and it honestly just blew me away. I was so sad I wasn't able to buy its CD the night of so I could listen to it on my way home. (UPS lost a box apparently so they didn't have a lot of their merchandise available).

Catt Link ParentMay not be a whole new species (though I find that line more interesting to think about no matter how remote a possibility). Maybe we'll just end up almost extinct, loose our place for a bit as the dominant species, forget just enough to have to restart completely. Ten thousand years or so would probably be enough.

Can't say I collect them, but here's a few I find myself thinking about every now and then:
- Which is more immortal - being able to just transfer your memories into a new clone when you die (just memories, so they know everything you know as if reading a transcript of your life, not as if they experienced it), or you get brought back to life each time you die, but without your memories (but with feelings and impressions or instincts intact)?
- When the human race is completely extinct and a new dominant, intelligent life evolves to fill our niche, how will we look in the fossil records? Will they be digging up random harddrives that someone tossed in a safety deposit box? Will they figure out how to read it?
- When climate change issues can no longer be ignore, will we adjust in the cities by trying to grow as much plants (grass and edibles) to replace as much concrete as possible to cool and regulate the air temp? If that happens, will concrete driveways be seen as quaint the way some old cottage / country designs are now?

Catt Link ParentIt would be so amazing if they did that here. I've literally sat next to my door waiting for deliveries just to get a failed attempt update on my phone and then find a note. Generally the only time I've gotten a call is if you've requested it (and they have time) or if you've made an effort to know the person on your route and they happen to be nice.

Catt LinkDHL or any other package deliver service will not call you out of the blue about failed delivery attempts. At least here in Canada they don't. And the CRA will not call you or send anyone with handcuffs to your house. Everything in Canada is done through Canada post mail.

Catt LinkI had a hard time adjusting to university when I first moved away and what you've written echos my experience, and I've seen this happen to quite of my friends too at various stages of life -...I had a hard time adjusting to university when I first moved away and what you've written echos my experience, and I've seen this happen to quite of my friends too at various stages of life - going to university, during school, after graduating, looking for work, after being laid off, and so on. My point is this happens pretty commonly, so don't beat yourself up with it. Don't be too disappointed when you don't feel productive.
What I think works:
- Put on pants everyday! At least once a day, go outside, even if it's literally open your front door and walk ten steps out. Go get the mail or take a walk or get gas, whatever.
- Deal with your to do lists. For me, I broken every task into tiny tiny pieces, so that I could check off lots of things. I thought this was helping, but it turned out to be overwhelming as I was always looking at a super long list. You're your own expert, so play around with a system that works for you.
- Drink water - not kidding. When you catch yourself doing nothing, go get a glass of water and take a couple drinks.
- Stretch - working out can sometimes feel like a lot. You sound like you're in front of a computer a lot, so shoulder, back, hip and hand stretches will probably feel good for you. Google a few (or chat with your doctor) and do them whenever you feel like it, feel stiff or feel like you're doing nothing.

Catt LinkI managed to donate 4.5 L of breastmilk, and I have over 2 L I still have to drop off. I'm lucky enough to have a good supply, and a mother in my birth and babies group posted a message about need...I managed to donate 4.5 L of breastmilk, and I have over 2 L I still have to drop off. I'm lucky enough to have a good supply, and a mother in my birth and babies group posted a message about need and Northstar Mothers Milk Bank looking for donors. So, I went through the screening and started pumping and freezing routinely.
When I made my first drop off, I got a tour of the facility and that was pretty cool. Saw where they kept the frozen milk, where they pasteurized it and prepared it for shipment to hospitals. Saw a nice map of their drop off location, and hospitals they supply. Also learned about a few recipients and why or how they came to need donated breastmilk. They also gave a little oneies for my baby that says "Eat local".
I've only told my immediate family about this IRL. So many mothers have such a crazy hard time and are already put under so much pressure, I felt guilty flaunting my luck...
FYI - 4.5 L takes about a month to pump and is about 5 days worth of milk for a premature baby.

Catt LinkThis article really put together a lot of thoughts I've had over the years. The history is so important, but with progress it is really easy to have that fade, for better or worst. I remember...This article really put together a lot of thoughts I've had over the years. The history is so important, but with progress it is really easy to have that fade, for better or worst. I remember recently reading about someone thinking that accepting their friend's coming out was to basically see it as "no big deal". I had a guy I work with talk about how "protected" kids are nowadays needing "safe spaces", and I reminded him that gay marriage wasn't legal when I was in university.
It's great that we are seeing progress, but it is definitely getting harder to express that we're not done yet.

Strollers that require a credit card are the only ones I see returned without issue.

Smartphones have been great for being a jack of all trades, but I find if I'm really serious about say taking a...Interesting read. I do find a little redundancy to be pretty helpful day to day. Smartphones have been great for being a jack of all trades, but I find if I'm really serious about say taking a photo, reading, gaming, or writing a cover letter, I definitely switch to a more single purpose device. (And I prefer to wear a watch).
I also think it's great to have the redundancy in something like a phone to allow a lower price point in having tech to do certain tasks.

Catt Link ParentI love my reader, but definitely still prefer books. Ereader has greatly improved vacations for me. I use to pack a bunch of books and now I just carry my ereader. I also don't like the way books...All people who said that never touched or saw an ereader.

I will miss all the extra personal space when I'm out and curbside pickups though.
