I've gone back and edited my response a couple times so some stuff may be a little weird sounding.
This is actually something I visualized when writing the comment. I suppose our species would 100% fight for our own rights to the best of our ability, as I'm sure lab animals, mass farmed animals (not sure if that's the right term), and sacrificial animals fight to their best ability. Though I suppose the difference is that we would most likely know what is happening to us over the animals that are oblivious to our world.
I suppose if I stick to the stance that I took, then my response would be two-fold.
- If the animals I listed above don't know what's happening to them in this grander scale (i.e. lab animals don't know they're lab animals). If a species was able to surpass us to the point where we're farmed, would we even notice? Or would their world be so far beyond ours and so much bigger than ours that we wouldn't be able to comprehend their decisions.
- If we were capable of arguing with them as you pose, I would say that our species would not let them do as they please with us. We would most likely fight back. History shows we're not above violence when it comes to most arguments. Whether we win or lose I suppose has been decided by the topic of the question. I suppose the new question is whether they have the ethical responsibility to care for us.
Though personally I know I would like it if my species was properly treated, as I'm sure every species, if they were able to have the thought, would. And I appreciate the point about altruism. But is it this altruistic quality in us that is making the ethical decision that we should care about other species. If so can we properly say yes or no to the ethical question we are talking about without bringing in our "emotions". Should we be cold and calculated when talking about this, or is it ok to just say because it naturally feels wrong that it is wrong? I'll probably be thinking about this all day...

It's less of if these animals that people are sacrificing or testing on have feelings, emotions, cognitive awareness, or the ability to feel pain, but more on shouldn't we care for our own species progress far above other species. Isn't the whole "survival of the fittest" thing in play over here? We as humans have evolved way past other species and it shouldn't be our responsibility to pick up the slack for other species?
Sacrificing may be slightly different to what I had in mind in the above paragraph, but that may be my personal religious biases. But if those people believe that doing what they're doing is right, then why should a superior species' right to practice religion be bellow an animal's right to live.
I personally don't sacrifice, mistreat, or actively try to harm animals. But I've been thinking about the moral implications of man vs animal. As a part of the human race should we be trying to hinder human progress in place of animal rights?

It's obviously not new but I like the basslines on quite a few of the songs and as a relatively new bass player I like to listen to albums that have some cool lines. I usually listen to one album on repeat for a while so the current flavor of the month is this one. If anyone is interested my top 3 tracks of the album they'd be (in no particular order):
- Psycho Killer
- New Feeling
- Book I Read
- Uh-Oh Love Comes to Town
- Pulled Up
Really like the constant driving beat Tina Weymouth lays down.

In general movie ticket prices here are really high so I tend not to watch a lot of any film in theaters. Like I said in an above reply, I'm ok with the logic behind producing this many super hero films. And I understand there's a huge mass appeal. I seem to be in a vocal minority right now, but many people are still enjoying these movies. Also I am enjoying some of them, primarily the ones I listed above. Hopefully I'm not coming off as too upset about the movies. They could come out with 50 every month and it wouldn't affect me too much other than wild bewilderment.

I just don't watch movies that I don't want to see, I don't see a lot of movies in theaters in general because of the high prices my city tends to have for tickets. I understand the need to make them. I was more just confirming his question about DC and agreeing with his statement about being burned out by the movies, like someone else said it's just the mediums overproducing to meet market demand. There's no doubt that the genre is just as popular as ever, if not even more so. And I'm not completely immune to the bug, I really enjoyed Into the Spiderverse, Polar, and I enjoyed the first couple episodes that I saw of Umbrella Academy.

to be honest I'm just waiting for this comic craze to be over.
Yeah I was a fan at the beginning but it feels like once a month I've got to come up with an excuse to not pay $20 to see the same-ish plot with different characters.

And don't particularly care for the giant banner ad-like trailer that they have for Netflix Originals on the home page. But overall I feel like if I'm using a different service I find myself comparing certain features or designs to something on Netflix.
Just to be clear I'm not a Netflix shill or something. If anything I've been using Netflix less and less. Unfortunately with the vast amount of streaming services now, many tv shows and movies are locked behind other gates. Leading to me (and it seems like others too) opting to sail the high seas.
https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/d3q45v/bittorrent-usage-increases-netflix-streaming-sites
One that I found funny, which may be anecdotal is that the time it takes for Netflix to ask if I'm still watching their show. I wonder if it's because they got better at detecting whether I'm watching something or if it's that the amount of time someone will spend watching something has increased. -

Yeah big props to whomever works on Netflix's UI/UX team. Even a service as well established as hulu (imo) has at least a step down UI to Netflix. They've really got something going.
It's other things too, even though sometimes Netflix can goof the recommended section I find it years ahead of Amazon's. Not to mention the fact that 85% of Amazon's videos are buried deep in a weird "scroll through everything to find things" UI/UX design.
Anybody have any experience with Win 8?
