I have by no means an academic background in econ, but before I spill out something into the public, I at least try do to some research. And if I don't know enough about something, I keep my mouth shut so that people that know more than me can have a more constructive dialog.

This article is largely based on the ideas put forward in this book by the political economist Robert Skidelsky.

Graeber is an author of a well-recieved book on the history of economics and commerce and he is writing about a book by a well respected economist. There has been far more research and knowledge put into this article than you have.

This article feels almost desperate to me. Ideas like population control are pretty radical and almost certainly won't do nearly enough. However, I understand the desire to join something like BirthStrike. Not having a child is something that's largely under your control. It's a tangible action you can take that you know will have an impact. But it isn't enough. We need to tackle the drivers of climate change. That involves making a lot of sacrifices ourselves, and unfortunately, probably means forcing others who don't want to sacrifice to give up as well. Our current system of capitalism is not sustainable and there aren't any actions that you can individually do that will be enough.

I really wish it were as simple as not having a child and going vegan and giving up your car (I say this as somebody who does all 3). But it isn't.

Does it count if I'm fermenting peppers? Just finished making a more sriracha style hot sauce, which didn't turn out quite how I wanted it. I think I put too much ginger and sugar in it, so it kind of overpowers the spiciness which you only really get on the back-end of the taste.

Also fermenting a habenero/frenso chile mix which should be ready to go tomorrow. Can't wait to turn it into a sauce!

Probably my only gripe is that I'm not super in love with the jump physics (you stop gaining height the second you let go of the jump button which feels a bit unintuitive.

I've also been getting back into playing chess, which has been enjoyable. I'm still fairly bad (1300-1400 elo), but it's fun to improve.

Giving up meat was actually really easy (though I'm fortunate to live in an area with good vegan options).

I didn't notice any negative health effects whatsoever even though I didn't make an effort to count nutrients or anything. Part of that comes from the fact that I eat a very balanced diet of almost entirely homemade food. I did lose about 15lbs of fat after i stopped eating meat, but I chalk this up more to the fact that I was cooking healthier meals than anything else.

Warren's tax is a wealth tax. This means that, regardless of how much money you earn in a year, if you have more than $50 million, you get taxed at 2%. A marginal tax is what Alexandria Ocasio Cortez proposed which is taxing any money earned after somebody has already earned $10 million at 70% (in here case, the numbers can obviously vary for different proposals). Either way, both taxes are far better than O'Rourke's convoluted idea.

A lot to say here, but my general thought is that Attack on Titan is more massive clusterfuck with some problematic themes than outright fascist.

You're not alone in being confused OP, I've seen the first season of the show and read the manga through what I believe is the third season, and I honestly don't understand or remember half the stuff the article is talking about. I think it's really hard to draw a coherent theme from the series when so much of the plot is confusing and muddled.

There are clearly some fascist themes in the series, mostly notably how incredibly pro-military it is. Probably the biggest single point in favor of the "AoT is fascisty" argument is that the man characters stage a military coup of the government. There's also the general theme of "violence and strength is all that matters" and a really, really big emphasis that only through strength can the characters accomplish anything. And how the characters have a strong motivating force as the desire to expand beyond the walls of their city. There's also the German theming and fascist looking uniforms which further give the impression that there's a weird obsession with the military.

However, I think it's important to also note how anti-tyranny AoT is. A consistent major theme for the main characters is atrocities committed by the government. One of the big points in the early parts of the story is how the government and the military basically killed all of the poor people in order to prevent over-crowding.

Overall, I think the series can't really be viewed through a lens of Western fascism. It's much more a rejection of monarchy and non-merit based government rule than it is a rejection of liberalism. It has some strong fascist themes, but they play out as more pro-military and pro "might-makes-right" than anything else. I'd also argue that the plot elements come from a desire to have crazy twists than a desire to espouse any ideas. It's fascist-coding, not fascist allegory.

At what point in the surgery are you asked "What's your sexual preference?"

Cisgender refers to gender, not sexual preference. It means somebody who is not trans.

Mostly, I think it's a bit ridiculous to label dudes with body dysmorphia or dudes just looking to get laid as "incels", now. Just seems that the definition of that term is widening for article writers' preferences so they can get those clicks while contributing to tribalism and petty internet squabbles (inadvertently?).

I mean, if somebody is posting on a forum called "Sluthate", I think incel is a fair cop. And the article explicitly mentions people who aren't incels who are getting surgery.
