I guess that was the whole point of my original comment - it's challenging for me, I sometimes feel like an alien, I'm surrounded by lots of people all the time, but I just can't relate to any of them in a meaningful way. I'm probably somewhat on the spectrum in certain ways, my neurodivergence might be getting in the way, but that being said, I do have some very good friends, and I have an amazing wife and wonderful kids. I'm not unable to be gregarious and put myself out there, but I find that as I get older, as an adult, finding people that overlap with your venn diagram of interests/politics/morals/socialization is extremely difficult*.
- it's definitely easy to find like-minded people online, but I'm talking about finding people in my immediate geographic area. Sitting on a computer and facetiming aren't what I'm talking about here.

I'm talking like a real live person that you can interact with in the same physical space. I'm 50 and married, and I realized over the course of our relationship that everybody I know socially, it's because of my wife. I have a few very close friends, but they don't live in my geographic area, so we're relegated to texting/social media/facetime, and it's just not the same as having a real friend to just hang out with, do things with, even if it's just going for a hike and talking about a shared interest.
My wife is extroverted, and she makes friends easily. That being said, many of her friendships are very superficial, surface level relationships. She has a few "best" friends where there is definitely much more depth, but overall, it's quantity over quality with her.
I'm very much an introvert, so I don't really go for "acquaintances". For me to really enjoy someone else's company constantly, there definitely needs to be a deeper connection. I guess I just struggle with how to make those deeper connections, because I find that when meet someone it really doesn't take me long to realize that they are not "my type of person". Not that they're a bad person or anything like that, just that I find I can't really relate to them in a meaningful way (no overlapping interest, different morality, politics, religion, etc...). I understand that sometimes differences can be celebrated, but many times they are a barrier rather than something that can be accepted.
I also want to put out that I'm not lonely or anything, but I think my wife struggles more with my lack of real friends than I do. I think it would be nice for me to have a new friend or two that are geographically available and that I genuinely enjoy spending time with, I just don't know how to get there, because it's been a long time and it seems like I just can't find that connection with anybody.

Her career as a model and socialite in NYC gave her access to very influential people, and her ending up in Trumps orbit was the icing on the cake. The KGB got the dirt on him through her, and now he's their puppet, and she's pulling the strings.

dmfiend LinkVirtua Fighter 2. VF1 was great, but it was a little bit ahead of its time. The 3D models were clunky and the graphics weren't that great, but the gameplay was solid. Then VF2 came along and blew...Virtua Fighter 2.

Then VF2 came along and blew it out of the water. The upgrade in graphics brought so much more "personality" to the fighters, the gameplay was still solid, but it also got very deep. Music, stages, everything was improved for the better. They also added a few new characters to round out the roster, and they were really cool.
The rest of the series was just graphics bumps, and a few new characters, but there was little room for improvement after VF2, that's where it peaked.

dmfiend LinkKraft Smooth is the way. I looooooove PB, I eat it every day. I understand the people that don't like the processed stuff like Kraft and Jiffy, I was like that too for a while, but with small kids...Kraft Smooth is the way.

Interesting thing I discovered when I used to travel extensively to the far east (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Philippines...). PB is not really a thing out there. I remember the very first time I went, I spend two weeks in Taiwan with no PB and it was rough. When I got to the airport to return to Canada, I found a little store in the terminal that sold Reese's Peanut Butter cups and I bought like 5 of them!

It sounds like you are actually at the buy-it-for-life phase. Just go ahead and buy a proper climbing carabiner. Sure they can be expensive ($50-$100), but it will probably outlive you. Add in some paracord to loop it all together and you're golden.

dmfiend Link ParentLinux Mint here too. After years with Ubuntu, then Debian, I decided to give Mint a try and I haven't looked back. I'm a linux power user at both home and work, and even I got tired with the...Linux Mint here too. After years with Ubuntu, then Debian, I decided to give Mint a try and I haven't looked back.
I'm a linux power user at both home and work, and even I got tired with the little "quirks" of Ubuntu and Debian...old outdated packages, or customizations that were headaches to work around rather than improvements.
Mint just gets out of the way, it's slick, easily customizable, everything just works. I use it for game emulation, coding (C/C++/Java/python/javascript/node), general day to day use. I haven't had any issues with it yet. Can't recommend it enough if you're dissatisfied with other distros.
Ubuntu at work, Mint at home.
The only real pain point is that my favourite mouse, the Logitech MX Master 3S/4 isn't really supported.
On Windows, there's an app called Logioptions or something where you can do all kinds of cool tweaking to the buttons and gestures, plus you can create cool workflows and stuff for the little on-screen menu widget.
Nothing like that on Linux. There are some half-assed tweaks you can make using some sort of sketchy third-party apps, but they only really scratch the surface.
I wish Logitech would just properly support Linux systems for their mouse, because frankly, the MX Master is a mouse for power-users, and in my experience, most power-users are using some flavour of Linux in their day-to-day.
