Maybe it's just because I've gotten used to using VisionOS over the past year, but I quite like iOS 26. Really dig the new keyboard and having the search bar always at the bottom across all the default apps. Music mixing works really well most of the time. Liquid Glass is pretty if you use it correctly. AI improvements are quite nice.

What I love most are Spatial Scenes. A little gimmicky, but extremely cool (and actual magic in VR)

Did you watch the rest of She-Hulk? That scene actually had a great deal of significance later on.

    Spoilers here:

The "twerking scene" is secretly recorded by an incel-type character and distributed online. The video is spread among 4-Chan style messageboards and becomes a big story in-universe. Online losers send Jen hatemail for it. So the scene itself is effectively bait for the exact online discourse that came from it.

IMO it is a brilliant scene that perfectly triggers exactly the right people.

Was looking for a game to fill the gap between Super Mario RPG (which I finished last week - very solid!) and DK Bananza. I eventually settled on Splatoon 3.

I finished the singleplayer some time ago and really loved it; it feels almost like a spiritual successor to Super Mario Galaxy. The multiplayer always intimidated me as I know these games usually get really sweaty and people have been playing for years at this point. However, I dipped my toe into Salmon Run (sort of a Horde mode) and it really feels like the best of both worlds. I've fallen totally in love with this game and can't wait to be there Day 1 for Splatoon 4.

My only problem is that my friends are all pretty anti-Nintendo so I have nobody to play with :( I know about LFG discords and whatnot but I really just wanna play and joke around with my buddies and send them Big Man memes (Ay! Ay!)

Disregarding the whole "SHOULD THIS HAVE BEEN A FREE PACK-IN????" discussion, I've been really happy with Welcome Tour. Nintendo rarely ever provides a peek behind the curtain like this and I found many of the powerpoint presentations interesting and the mini-games pretty fun.

My favorite factoid from Welcome Tour: they redesigned the Pro Controller to be one solid piece of plastic....because they knew a plastic seam would get filled with sweat/oils/hand chum!

The biggest unsung feature is the 3D photo conversion for sure. I have cried actual tears looking at photos from 10, 20, 30 years ago that I converted with Apple's tool. It truly feels like I'm looking through a window in time.

This technology is going to absolutely explode once they (inevitably) get the price down.

Yeah, probably, but overall a drop in the bucket compared to the numbers the Switch 2 will move. Wouldn't be shocked to see it outsell the Deck's lifetime sales by EOY.

The Switch 2 is only "competing" against the Steam Deck for a small percentage of users. I love my Deck but IIRC they've sold fewer units than the Wii U. It's very much a niche platform.

I've intentionally been holding off on the Scarlet/Violet Expansion Pass with the hope that they'd get performance boosts on Switch 2. So they're effectively launch titles for me!

I recently picked up Enshrouded. It's been a ton of fun! While it doesn't really bring anything new to the table, it combines dozens of individual features from other games I love into one package. It also (smartly) drops some annoying features of the survival genre, like hunger meters and procedural maps.

Off the top of my head, Enshrouded has

    • BOTW's exploration (complete with a glider)

    • FromSoft's combat mechanics (not difficulty)

    • Minecraft's voxel-based building

    • Valheim's prefab-style building

    • Assassin's Creed Odyssey's loot system

All these individual things synthesize into what I would consider damn close to my "perfect" video game. I've spent a dozen hours building my base, only to decide I want a basement and then physically dug into the terrain to build it. There's tons of loot, weapons, and gear to find (not just wood > iron > steel > gold > etc. you see in other survival games). The developers are extremely hardworking, with a 2025 roadmap already published that's overflowing with content (1.0 release is planned for early 2026). It is an extremely rare example of an Early Access game done right.

It's like if Nintendo made a new F-Zero, but turned it into Smash Kart or something. Is it really a new F-Zero at that point?

While not my favorite, I gotta say the recent Apple TV+ movie "Spirited" was extremely good. I'm not a big Ryan Reynolds fan but I like musicals and this movie filmed in Boston so I'm biased. It's an incredibly creative twist on the "A Christmas Carol" story.

Mild spoilers for the first 5 minutes:

I assumed it would be a retelling of the story, but it's actually a sequel - The Ghosts of Christmas Past/Present/YTC run their act annually on the worst person they can find. In 2022, that person is Ryan Reynolds' character. Will Ferrell (Christmas Present) wants to help him but his boss (Marley) says RR is an unredeemable lost cause.
