For mangoes, I'd read up on the similarities to poison ivy / oak. As to the lack of interest. We're going on a few years into the lack of interest at this point so I'm going to leave it. I know I lost interest in apples in my teens and just never gained it again so who knows what'll happen with the family and mangoes.

Yeah, being in a 9b zone is pretty nice. I'm flirting with problems on the black sapote, ice cream bean, and lychee but there's been a few people making them work in 9b. They seem to be a bit better after getting established for a couple years. White sapotes have been here for over 100 years so that shouldn't be too bad.

I've considered mangoes and they were on my original short list of trees to plant but they go uneaten in the house when I get them. We went through a strong mango phase but no one seems too interested in them now. There's one house in the neighborhood with a ~10-15ft tall mango tree so they should work here if things change. Also saw a papaya tree while walking my dog. I've been enjoying Hawaiian papayas so I'll probably plant one of those along with some more passion fruit varieties. Probably a couple more dragon fruit vines, a sapodilla, and possibly a dark Surinam cherry.

Rebuilding from MCL injury in December. I'm getting older so recovery was a more gradual process even though I was back to training in a relatively short period - doctor said ~4 weeks and that had me at a rather light workload.

    Nothing planned just yet.

I wouldn't have expected it either but damn if I wasn't having a time of it starting to slide a bit on my back. The hilarity for me is that LA Fitness doesn't have this problem. The LA Fitness nearest me has 1 Oly bar and the rest are power bars. The 24 Hour Fitness where I've been lifting more lately has great squat racks and bumper place with deadlift platforms attached. But they've got a good number of Eleiko Oly bars. Fun for doing Oly lifts but everyone scrambles for the power bars for bench and squats. From what others have said, the other 24 Hour gyms nearby also have a lot of Oly bars as well.

I'd love to hit a more proper powerlifting gym but that'll be limited. Most are $100-150 a month.

No center knurling isn't as much a problem. Oly bars, though, are designed to spin and spin very well for the snatch and clean & jerk. Powerlifting doesn't really need that level of spin. It's far too much spin when also trying to squat a 5x5 at 80% of my max. Squatting 315 lbs isn't too bad. I start noticing it at 365 and definitely noticed it at 405. Spent far more effort bracing to keep stable with a bar that wanted to roll down my back.

A power bar, which I'd use in powelifting competition and which most gyms use, does spin but spins much less and is much more stable for heavy squatting. Hell, even one of the employees would just bring in his own barbell to ensure he didn't have to squat with one of the Oly bars.

I just want to say that heavy squats on an Olympic barbell suck. My core got hammered. Ended up using wrist wraps to keep the bar from spinning around but even then, I had a bit of a death grip on the bar and wasn't anywhere near as stable. Give me a power bar for powerlifting every time.

    So-so.

Blueberries had 2/3 plants give some fruit.

Peach tree did well in its first year of production. Sadly, it's in the front yard and someone(s) decided to take a huge number of them while we were on vacation.

Dragon fruit are still pending. Though I did finally get a beautiful purple flower from a vine I've had for a few years. Unfortunately, no fruit as it might be self-sterile. Tried using its own pollen but no luck.

Avocado tree decided to take the year off :(

Lemon / orange trees grew like mad

Lime tree started producing fruit, then gave up, but is now starting up again

Blue elderberry had fruit that got scorched. Probably not enough water on my part. First year, though, so I'll adjust for next year.

The rest are new plantings. Golden currant, ice cream bean, lychee, longan, white sapote, black sapote.

Currently writing a script to grab all the namespace quotas from our clusters so we know how much CPU/memory are allocated to each app. It's also an easy way to see which namespaces have no quotas. Currently works on one cluster. I now have to update the inventory file and let it run through all the non-production clusters.

Or maybe Meta just wants to use the tech for themselves. I remain skeptical.

Yeah, Reddit's forum format is fine for at-the-moment discussions but isn't conducive to long-term discussions and dive-down topics within a thread since you can't keep a thread bumped by simply posting to it. In Reddit, you'd have to basically have those various threads put into a Wiki and hope to find it there. That or use a search engine to find it.

Diablo 3. It lacked the gear charm of 2. I was trying to go through it, building up a few characters and had one in the early parts of Hell. Didn't try the expansion pack as I lost interest before that. At this point, I'm not sure I want to deal with any Blizzard games and haven't picked up either D2R or D4.

Rollercoaster Tycoon World and probably some other bad iterations I'm forgetting post-RCT3. For now, OpenRCT2 is scratching the itch. I've also got Planet Coaster if I feel like something modern, though I haven't played it much and haven't even touched it in years. I might eventually pick up Parkitect, though things like having to put the bathrooms in certain areas and such are throwing me off a bit.

Wouldn't they basically need to also to Children of Dune to complete Paul's arc? Though Children is less on Paul than the first two books.

VPN's okay. I'd just rather not have my network handling any file transfers and leave it all on the company network. That and it's easier to kick off walk-away jobs on an on-network system. I can use screen or tmux if I remember to which isn't always the case. Then remember to, in addition to screen, run an anti-idle command so I don't get auto-logged out of the shell after an hour anyway.

I had a remote PC. Then they gave me a laptop with VPN. Then they took my remote PC away and I was stuck with the laptop and VPN. It sucks in comparison. I'd rather be on my home 27" monitor and mechanical keyboard than the laptop screen and keyboard.

If I was out of town, I could just use Citrix to RDP into the PC and check things. Now I've got to either say, "nope, I'm on vacation, didn't bring the laptop," or lug the laptop with me.

It's already more than that. Beehaw dedeferated from lemmy.world given problems they saw there. Alt-right instances have been blocked by the other Lemmy instances. Several instances have already blocked lemmygrad and there's at least been some desire by users to block lemmy.ml to avoid the tankies.

Seems like some political leanings and groups that don't want to deal with each other will cause some splits as well.
