I feel like tying your social presence on the internet to your name, even if you don't have any socially questionable opinions, is a mistake. Leaving that stuff connected to your name is just leaving data on a silver platter for all the varied hostile entities that gather online.
Making websites pay to use on the other hand, that could definitely be used to make discourse better quality. Though that would still have the problem of moderation at scale.

Privacy on the internet. I still remember when advice for the use of internet was never reveal your real name. Nowadays all the data about us is catalogued and analyzed. The data giants have such a huge amount of data and they are more and more able to use it effectively. I worry about the influence they wield by exploiting that data.

It's really scary idea, that the president of USA apparently thinks this kind of ad not only will not hurt his chances for reelection, but apparently believes that is the best way to ensure it. I like to believe that here in Europe it would be instant political suicide, but maybe I am just being naive and we're hurtling towards fascism everywhere.

Mostly it comes down to whether we want to expend energy and work updating all the code that will now need to be updated to work with the new terminology. The change will not fix racism, it will not fix low representation of minorities in coding professions. It is purely feel good gesture that accomplishes nothing.

It's mostly just the ones profiting off it, that are evil. But ultimately it is not that important what motivations they have. If your kid dies because people in his school weren't vaccinated and infected him, it is small comfort to know that their parents were merely ignorant instead of actively malicious.
