I did the PS5 platinum first, and it was my first ever Souls game. Then on PC I did it with no summons, which was a challenge for me. Some day I’d love to attempt a no hit run but I’m nowhere near that level yet.

Only halfway through the video but I’m excited. I never played the AC games back in the day, but a game like this was exactly what I’d always hoped for as a kid. Hopefully if there’s PvP it has better netcode than Elden Ring because I don’t think it would hold up to such fast paced combat.

Wow, I didn’t know he had cancer. I’m much sadder than I ever expected I would be. I have a less charitable perception of him as an adult (albeit not super negative), but as a kid between 9-12 years old, I would stay up late reading and rereading stories from his Art of Deception and Art of Intrusion books. They were huge sources of inspiration, entertainment, and escapism for me.

I’ve never been able to get into comics even though I’ve wanted to. It’s hard for me to focus on them, or appreciate them somehow. Honestly I think I’m just not a very visual person, for example I usually prefer textual descriptions over imagery when learning new things, etc.

However, my most recent (and technically ongoing) attempt to get into comic books has been sponsored by my love for The Last Podcast on the Left. The hosts are huge comic book fans and have come out with their own collections in The Last Comic Book on the Left volumes 1, 2, and soon to be 3. They also did a short series called Soul Plumber for DC. I’ve read all of these and have enjoyed them and hope that maybe someday I’ll be able to truly appreciate more comic books, because I think it’s a cool medium with a lot of cool people involved, and I think it’s a shame that I’m missing out on a lot of really talented people’s works.

Honestly if anyone has any suggestions for gateway comics I’d be all ears. I like the aforementioned ones for their dark, gritty, horror, creepy, humorous, and irreverent aspects.

A lot of the answers in this thread hit me pretty hard. I miss the old internet a lot.

One I haven’t seen mentioned, and is probably a lot less popular, but was — for a long time — the instant messaging platform of choice for the multiplayer games I played (that weren’t on Steam) was this program called Xfire. I just googled some old images of the client and it actually makes me emotional. So many memories with old friends were made through Xfire’s chat client. It was one of the default programs I would always have open for close to a decade.

A not very well known and not particularly well made or well run free-to-play multiplayer first person shooter called War Rock saw me through some tumultuous years of my childhood, and through which I made online friends that I still know to this day — 15+ years later — and while we only talk ever so often now, at times they were the best and closest friends that I had.

Same can be said for RuneScape and then Old School RuneScape. This was the first computer game I had ever played starting in elementary school, and later in high school this game helped get me through my mom’s illness and passing.

I don’t think the issue for amateur porn on reddit is that reddit is dying but that reddit seems to be taking slow steps to removing it. First it was removed from /r/all (understandable), now the third party apps that still exist are barred from showing sexually explicit nsfw content (as of yesterday), and people, like me personally, think that reddit is going to continue “cleaning up” further in advance of the IPO.

I finally checked out Slay the Spire last week, and am loving it. It’s the most I’ve played a game since Returnal and Elden Ring. I also ended up getting it on my phone because it seems like a great mobile game.

I also downloaded the Final Fantasy 16 demo because I’m really tempted to buy either it or Diablo 4, but I’ve never played a FF game before and have a bad habit of buying games I never touch or barely play. It looks and feels amazing so far and since I’ve never played FF before I don’t have any gripes with how it’s changed from games prior. Still feeling conflicted. I’ve never played the Diablo series either, but it seems like a game I could see myself getting into right now.

I subscribe to a local newspaper, the NY Times, and Washington Post. I only occasionally read them, I mostly just have notifications and emails enabled so any major news headlines come to me that way. I’ll read the article and usually click on another one or two. Ever once in awhile I open them up just to browse around.

The main reason I subscribe to them is because I want to support journalism. I don’t want it to all be funded by only major corporations that buy ads/influence. So I try to do my part with those three.

And I still do also use Reddit for some news purposes. r/CredibleDefense will probably never be replaced, same with my city’s subreddit, and I like r/law for updates on all the Supreme Court shenanigans and Trump trial brouhaha; there’s still some contributors there that provide good analysis. Also, I like checking r/conservative to see what news is swirling around in their circles. Oh, and also the subreddit for an autoimmune disease that I have (r/psoriasis), but that’s more for support than news although occasionally there’s news.

I’m excited for you to read Children of Memory. It’s not as good as Ruin or Time (which I consider to be one of the best sci-fi books I’ve ever read as well) but still very much worth the read as a fan of the first two in my humble opinion. Not everyone on the internet agrees but I enjoyed it a lot.

Can you guess what genre I favour? ;)

Self-help books specifically from the 90s and early 00s.

    • Lonesome Dove: just finished it. My first western. I absolutely loved it, couldn’t put it down, and it instantly became a library book that I decided I needed in my personal collection because I already want to reread it.
    • Fall of Hyperion: I’ve been on this one for a little while, I’m reading it much more slowly than it’s precursor which I couldn’t put down and devoured in like two days (and also became an instant addition to my personal collection). I’m enjoying it, it just feels quite different. I’m aware that it was originally intended to be all one book, but I’m kinda glad it got split up.
    • Shogun: I’m not very far into it yet, but I’m enjoying it so far. Enough to keep going however it hasn’t really sucked me in yet. It’s honestly been kind of hard to keep all the characters straight, but I think I’ve got a good handle on them now. But none are THAT compelling to me yet to be honest.
    • Hiroshima: very heavy book. It’s incredibly short but I’m intentionally taking my time with it. Definitely think it’s something most people should read.

He and his longtime friend turned manager decided to do it so they could send a “hidden message” to his fans.

The longer Spacey stayed away from public life, the more he agonized about not working. "No one was hiring him, and he was bursting to act," says Lowenstein. Hoping it would help Spacey, he made a suggestion: Why not shoot a video themselves? He wrote a script for Spacey containing hidden messages for his fans. "This was an opportunity for him to communicate in a way that couldn’t be used against him in the court of law because he was acting," Lowenstein says. They shot the video in Spacey’s kitchen and posted it to YouTube on Christmas 2018. It’s called "Let Me Be Frank."

I get into kicks where I mostly watch rather than play myself as well. I’m mostly a fan of FromSoft speed/challenge runs. I also really enjoy the GamesDoneQuick charity events because the cause is good, the people are all so wholesome, and I’m exposed to games I’d never check out otherwise, often either really obscure or old or both.

We have two PS5s, which is really overkill because we aren’t the biggest console gamers (and in fact, I used to be a solely PC gamer), but we love being able to coop together without being trapped into only couch coop games of which there are far too few (but we have enjoyed several). My favorites have been Elden Ring and Returnal, both for the solo experience and the fun we’ve had playing them together.

We also have a Switch but I’ve almost never used it. She’s been playing the hell out of Tears of the Kingdom on it since it came out. I want to get around to playing Breath of the Wild eventually.

We finally upgraded my old PC (6700k 1070) a year and a half ago, to a 3700x 3070 build, and turned the old one into mostly a Plex server (currently 16 TB), sometimes game server for whatever game we may be into that could use one. The old PC was starting to really struggle with a lot of newer and poorly optimized older games. The last game I played through on PC was actually also Elden Ring lol. Not sure what NG I’m on now, but it’s safe to say I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of that game.

I've become a bigger fan of fantasy as I've been more exposed to it, but as much as I want to read Lord of the Rings (huge fan of the movies, the world, the lore, the vastness), I've struggled with it and have been stuck halfway through The Two Towers for about six months now myself. Tolkien is just insanely descriptive in his writing which can be magical and why a lot of people love it, but I often find it a slog.

I was making my best progress when I was following the /r/bookclub's read through on reddit. A lot of newcomers and super fans alike so it was great reading everyone's input and analysis.
